Forget white mussel - the guys probably tell you this knowing that you will not be catching much yourself.  We have spent days fishing with white mussel in this area without any success.  When in the area, I always take out some white mussel but I'll keep it for targeting other fish in other places.

Get yourself some pink prawn - plentiful in the Botriver estuary near Fisherhaven (a few kilometers from Kleinmond).  If you've got bloodworm, even better... add a prawn or two for luck!

Attached is a screenshot from Google Earth.

Pump prawn in the pink area.  This area holds millions of prawns and you won't have a problem pumping your quote in quick time.  Note you cannot access the private estate near the Botriver mouth unless you have a permit (have to be a local or owner in the estate).  You can park on Fisherhaven side and walk to the "prawn flats" - don't leave anything valuable in your car when parking here!!

In search of steenbras, I suggest you park at Kleinmond as this is the safer option.  Walk along the beach and look for fishable areas along the area marked in blue.  There are many sand banks here.  If you don't get a pickup in a few casts, move along to the next spot.  If the fish are around, you should get a pickup somewhere.  Best to work in a team and have different guys on different spots until you find fish - this is how the Hawston guys work the area.

If you do happen to find a school of fish, you should not have a problem getting a few good sizers.  Please return juvenile fish (there may be plenty around in schools) and stick to your limit of one per angler per day.

Look for nice working water on the sand banks with lots of oxygen in the water - if the sea is a flat blue dam you are best off going to elsewhere to fish for hottentot instead.

As usual, the fish go off the bite if the water temp drops.  The currents here can be really strong: be careful of wading and take some good grip sinkers.  Sometimes it's good to let your sinker move a bit, but the water here can really drag it along very fast.  Usually you don't need to cast very far, try a few casts in front of the sand bank as well as on it.

Tight lines, and have fun.  Take some pics and show if you happen to get some action!
