Starting a Club.....Properly

Hi All
I`ve been quite dormant on here but still getting a ton of info and tips , and I am very greatfull for that.

I am quite curious ( just because I was asked this myself) about the following:
We have a social club going since 2017/18 , now to be able to be seen as a "Legit" club, or to be able to get the younger guys to be provincial anglers one day, does the club need to be registered or affiliated anywhere or with any institution.

Perhaps WCSAA - SASAA or alike?

Please note I have tried to contact them for the information but to no avail ( phone and email)
Any and ALL information with regards to starting a proper club and registering , if at all, will be GREATLY appreciated.

Try reaching out to some of the other clubs in Cape Town... I have not been part of RASSPL, SSEC or the banter that used to be ongoing between us Tygerberg and the rest of the guys for years.... Used to be a lot of helpfull guys around, Henning, Craig, Mielie and the likes. If Tygerberg or the Rooibaadjies are still around get into contact with them and see if they can help.

I have left the fishing club scene for a number of years, but here is my take on it.
Big difference between social and competitive club fishing. The well established competitive clubs have been operating for many years and it takes a heck of lot of personal time, money and commitment to run a functional affiliated club.
My honest option is that if you have a bunch of juniors or younger guys wishing to fish competitively rather keep your social club and structures as is and have the young guys fish competitively under the established clubs (I assume you are in the Western Cape so they can fish with the Cape of Boland clubs). After a couple seasons the young guys would have learnt what they needed to from the established clubs and if they still feel like it they can affiliate their own club.

It's not just about the fishing, the admin about setting out teams, organising bait, doing clinics, club meetings, minutes of meetings, have meetings with other clubs to establish areas and bunch of paperwork that comes with it etc. You will also need numbers to compete with the other clubs and at the end of the day not everybody in the social club will want to commit as much time, money, effort to the cause... they just want to fish and have some friends around. Also note that the existing clubs have a lot of attrition, fishing competitively is expensive and demands a lot of time that is not always sustainable over a long period as peoples lives change. Consider if you affiliate your club now how long these young people and juniors will still fish and if you will be able to sustain a competitive club.
