Well after a long awaited trip it finaly arrived. Stoked properly we got up and left Pta at 03h00 Sunday only to arrive on the road with rain. said to my self, my dad didnt raise any moffies, a little rain i can take. We hit Piet Retief at about 06h30 when the phone call of skrops came threw to tell me there is no road works ahead. Brilliant, one hour later we should be in Pongola. Yea right. after for roadworks we arrived two hours later in Pongola. Stopped for a quick breakfast and hit the road. The rain subsided and arrived in St Lucia at 11h15 with sunny skies and no wind. The sea was flat and it looked promising for some shark fishing. Well. loaded the pentogan and it traveled a mile with a 9oz wit 2mm wire graps. Two minutes later the 9oz were luying on the beach. The side wash were terible. Packed up and went home, only to find out my dad had snapped his top eye on his rod, and this meant to get the rod fixed the next day and no fishing. Next morning the rod were fixed and we head out to a spot just south of the river mouth were skrops cought his sandy. Fished till about 19h00 and hit home without a single pull. That evening the raind arrived and did it arrive. Woke op next morning and went to View Point for some fishing. Dad's first cast of the morning, went into a Milk shark that i wanted to swim, but King Neptune were not smilling uppon me that morning and had the one overwind after the other. And to top it all i manage to get a upset stummic in the prosess as well. Not nice. Ever tried fishing with a upset stummic? Well after 30 min of running up the dunes to the toilet, it calmed dawn and could start fishing. That morning between my dad and myself we landed two cobbies of 40cm 2 x pompano and a couple of milk sharks. Well to make a lang story short the umfolozi came trew with a sw pumping be hind it and turned the water into mud for two days. Second last day the NE came trew and pusshed the water back to mapelane. The water were still quite muddy. After speaking to my buddy Skrops he said to go fish for some Zambo's. OK, Dad didn't raise a Poefter so went out just north of the main beach to Paaltjie 34. Pentagon and saltist combo with 0.50mm T Line and 1mm Speedspin leader it traveled into the mud bath about 120m. 200lb wire trace 2 x 10/0 Kendals with a bonito flapper bait attached. Did all this not thinking much about a hookup and started getting my ed rod ready when all hell broke loose. By the time i got to my rod i were already into my braid. After about 10min or so it seemed i lost 930m of topshot and braind and sommer bussted the bearings on my saltist. Stood there in awe for about 10min just looking at the ocean. I were flabergated to say the least. So what did i learn about this trip? Do not lissen to your fishing buddies and do not go fish with a upset stummic!!!
