All I can say is what a day!!!
It all started at 5:30am when SSEC:WC members gathered at the gate of Ganzekraal Resort for our April monthly comp. We were greeted by awesome weather and the sound of waves crashing into the shore. Guys were sharing spots and tactics as we eagerly awaited for the gates to be opened at 6am.
Gates were opened at 6am for SSEC:WC club members and after some quick paperwork and admin by competition secretaries Extremist and Jo-Jo, the guys all rushed off to their selected spots to get the last few "primetime" minutes of sunrise.
This hustle and bustle to get a bait in the water as soon as possible paid off for guys who hit the water first and immediately they were on with fish! As luck has it, quite a few of the fish were lost in the excitement and only Marthin managed to land himself a Kobbie of 51cm on his first cast! WELLDONE BRU!
As the sun started sticking its head out the guys started splitting up. Some decided to dart off to Die Eiland or Kabeljou Bank as its also known for the now almost low tide and the others hit the area south of the Lapa. Jazz, on his first cast, ended up getting a hiding of note at Kabeljou Bank by something very big and strong.
Then as low tide settled in things started to quieten quite a bit and some of the guys took a well deserved dip to battle the already scorching heat.
With the turn of the tide the fish came on the bite again and quite a few fish were landed. Dafishking landed a BUS of a Hottie ( Pachymetopon Blochii to be politically correct
) measuring in at 41cm and as fat as ever! A few pics were taken and she was safely returned to fight another day, bagging him a healthy 99points for his catch!
Shortly afterward Choppertjie landed a nice fattie of a Hottie of 40cm with the guidance from some very friendly locals who invited him to join them on their spot. It was clear that these guys knew the area very well because they were soon pulling some very decent 50cm+ Hotties!
Soon reports were coming about fish being landed by SSEC:WC members from all over Ganzekraal. Well done to all the guys who managed to get fish!
At SSEC:WC we pride ourselves at promoting catch and release by offering a considerable amount of bonus points for fish caught and safely released.
Well done to our comp winners, in 3rd place Power Swivel with a 28cm Hottie (released), in 2nd place Dafishking with a 41cm Hottie (released), and this months comp champ with a 51cm Kob (not released) and a 38cm Hottie (released) is Marthin!!!
Now to prepare and plan for next months comp in the Betties Bay/ Hangklip area!!!
