Squid jig

I fished with a squid jig recently and it got absolutely smashed. I don't think it has a lot to do with the shape but more with the tassels. Anyway I wanted one a bit heavier as the one I fished with (6Oz) was a bit light.

So I started designing my own and to make the plug I'm using foam. and machined a general shape on the lathe. This is easy just some sand paper while spinning it.

Then by hand I've given the body some shape. Flattening the sides a little as well as the head where I'll fit eyes.

Then I roughly cut 2 wings out of foam and simply glued them onto the body and did some final shaping.

I fitted an eye (one side only) done a filler, primer and a coat of paint. Tomorrow some flatting and a second coat of paint. Mould should be ready by Monday.

In about the same manner I made jigs to catch Squid!
Put wire through the foam, painted and coated it with Polyester Surfboard resin. Squid are not very choosy, so they are a bit rough to show a picture.

The jig weighs 275 grams.

I'm going to ask faulty to powder them for me before finishing them. Will have to ransom his spoon mould.::S

for the wings you can use "biscuits". You know the ones the guys use in the wood industry ...
