Cptyfly and I went out to Langebaan for the day.
We started off with a bit of fly fishing for sand sharks on the prawn banks and each got one, and then later in the morning stopped in town, got some bait and went off to Spreeuwalle for some sharks action.
It started a bit slow with no action on the first cast, but second cast i got a pickup and after a great fight Cptyfly tailed my new PB Smoothhound of 142cm:
My Next cast produced another pull, but this fish was something else fight wise! Each Time I hook a smooth hound, i think that it must be bigger than the previous ones as they fight so hard, but this thing really was giving me serias gears! By Now Sharksin and his buddy Warren had joined us on the beach and they helped to land the fish, get it measured, tagged and released. We were not sure if it was a Smoothhound or a Spotted Gully shark though, and it was a beast at 1.81cm! I was so tired i couldn't hold it up properly! For a Spotted gulley shark, the tables say it's 33kg or for a Smoothhound it's 29kg! Either way it's a brute!! Here's the pic, and please let us know which it is?
Next to go down was Cptfly, with his first ever Smoothhound of 132cm which also gave him a super fight! He got the fish over the lip a few times but i was a bit slow in grabbing the fish. Eventually, i ready my self as the fish comes over the lip, and as the fish is sucked back, the hook pops and i see it fly past me. I just remember thinking "What the hell", and dived in after the fish, and somehow managed to get a good grip on it's tail and wrestled it out onto the beach!!!! Man that was a close one, but we got him, and here is the pic of John with his first Smoothie:
Sharkskin's mission for the day was to get his buddy Warren into a smoothhound, and sure enough the next rod to go down was Warrens. Again the fight was awesome and he eventually landed a beauty of 151cm! It was his first Smoothie too, biut also his first Shark ever!! What a fish to start with!!
So then things queitened down a bit, but i eventually got one more pull, and landed a 144cm Smoothhound, which was now my new PB (Assuming my second fish is a spotty and not a smoothie).
The most succesful bait was mullet and chokka combo, which caught all the fish except Warren's 151cm smoothy which was on a plain Mullet head. All three of my fish were actually caught on the same bait which i just kept adding pieces of mullet and chokka to as the fish ate it!
All fish were tagged and released succesfully.
What an awesome day!! Just wish Sharkskin could've gotten a fish after grafting so hard to get his buddy into one.

P.s - can anyone pls help identify if the second fish is a smoothy or a spotty?
