What is the best way to spool your grinder with braid and to ensure that it is packed tight.

What is your input

depends on the amount of braid.

I have in the past used to spool from another reel to get it good.
but don't like putting my reel through that work...
so I have also used a lathe to spool em….

and that is when 4x grandwave spools decided to pop...lol

I have an old Penn Jigmaster and a broomstick with reel seats either end. I wind my braid from the spool onto my grinder first in order to gauge how much will fit. I cut it off when the spool is looking a little overfilled then wind it all off the grinder and onto the Penn. I then wind back onto the grinder using the Penn's drag to create the necessary tension. With the braid under tension, the grinder usually comes out correctly filled... a mm or 2 below the lip.

In the past it used to be a 2 man job yet it never was smooth enough with the right amount of pressure changing allot in the process.

I recently bought a nice line spooler from the tackle shop that works great!
Can clamp it onto things like counter top etc and has adjustable tension to get it perfect every time.

If you need to take line off again to get the line lay better it also has a handle to wind.
