Spod setup

Good day all

I would like to hone my water craft skills. I think many of us as anglers do not cast out our baits anymore and rely on inflatables and baitboats to place Rigs and ground feed.

Nothing wrong with these methods as they work well. The downside is you are always lugging loads of gear with you. On short sessions you would want to limit your setup time.

In my opinion feature finding with a marker rod, baiting up with a spomb/spod and casting your baits out will save you time on short sessions. It will also add a new dimension to your angling skills.

I have a decent marker setup but need a spod setup. I would appreciate opinions on the equipment I would need for the full set-up without having to take out a second bond to purchase the gear.

I must admit that I don't spod that much but the rod I have/used that works great is my 11ft Sensation Bazooka MKI.

Spodding\feature finding is definitely a ritual I enjoy,especially on new waters.My marker and spod rods are both Exceler Saltwater rods in 10'62(older 2 piece versions) which I had the tips shortened to 10ft and works like a charm for both.

shop around, I bought shimano spod rods 5,5 tc for 750 a rod, and do yourself a favour and get decent reels, I tried using my small shimano DL 10000 bait runners to spod out, hahahahaha, the retrieval isn't great so you wear our your arms really fast..

I have a spare big pit reel spooled with 30lb braid. Therefore I need to shop around for a 5lb rod suitable for the task and also a spomb for smaller baits. Boilies are no problem as the throwing stick has served me well. Any advice on which spomb to purchase?

have a look at Henkor as they have SPOMB replicas really cheap

I have the BIG spomb and it takes a lot of particles and boilies but is a mission to get out, I think the med is a better option
