Spinning & Plugging For Kings

Hi Guys

I would just like to get your views on the type of outfit needed for spinning for Kingfish.

What braid and Mono would be needed too stop a 10kg + GT from stripping my reel to the bone?

Will be heading up to Maputa land coast.

9 or 10'rod with an XH or heavier action. 
5000 size reel.
30 lb braid

This setup will handle lures and poppers to about 3oz in weight and pull kingies in the 10-20kg range. Bigger than that and luck will most certainly play a big part in landing the fish if there's a lot of scattered reef about.

Got 30lb braid loaded to the one reel and 20lb on the other.. will just prey i dont get smoked by anything bigger.. heard that mabibi does produce fish of over 20kg during the summer. Ive only been there in winter so needed as much info as possible.

Im trying to plan my trip the same time as when the turtels start hatching on the beach there at nigh and will be targeting bigger kingies at night as they should be waiting for the hatchlings.

we've fished Banga Neck/Kosi often and i reckon 30lb braid is the trick for the bigger Geets, just beef up the leader. don't be hell bent on casting a bigger outfit the whole day as there is great fun to be had with smaller bluefin/greenspot/pompano. i fish 80% of the time with a 7ft Fenwick HMG/stradic 3000/20lb braid and 40lb leader and have managed fish up to 7 kilos on that outfit. more often than not you will see when the big fish are around then bring out the bigger stick. Be careful plugging too much at the expense of other tactics, some people may say i'm speaking rubbish but plenty of those fish know what a plug is and i've limited success as a result. try a few bucktail jigs we've murdered fish up there on them and they cast a dream.

I got a few needle nose , and Chisel noses and of course the old faithfull spoons, couple of small 1 and 2oz poppers. Would this be sufficiant  for Mabibi?

Ive got 30, 40, 60lb leader for the heavier outfit and for my light outfit 20lb and 15lb flouro..

Is Feb still a very good time? as i said ive only gone in mid winter?

Feb is a very good time. the needlenose are def the better option because they imitate the baitfish there effectively, the chiselnose also good. spoons aren't great for kingies to be honest. i would def have plastics (5 and 7inch, pearl blue and pearl olive mcarthy) and jigheads (1/2 to 1 1/2 oz). would have bucktails as well 1/2oz to 1 1/2 oz in grey, chartreuse and white and olive and white. Onda Onda's will work better than spoons.

Cool... will definitly stop a the shops and get me some onda-onda's....any specific colours i should be looking for?

sure. i'm not a guru on onda's hey i just said they better than spoons, would look for nautural colours but would get plastics and bucktails before onda's.
