Afternoon Andz,

Dont know if anyone has replied yet to your quest.

Yes and no  - Plugs do work occassionally on incoming & outgoing tides when the garrick chase the mullet.

Some days quiet for long time , then days when its hectic.

Call the Tugela Mouth Resort @ 032 4584241 / 0826234204 , JD LOTZ for regular updates. Also a gr8 campsite to stay over.

Regards Ben.

Hi Plugger/DWB , sorry for late reply.

Caught at Kosi mouth Sept '96 high tide on large chissel-nose plug.Took ab 50 min to land ,was a steam train and used 14ft Kingfisher rod ,Daiwa 7000 C.grinder and 25lb Maxima.

Was a battle of note , cause took me to the cleaners and back about three times.

Tried to revive it in the estuary , no luck and had to take it with.

Had no scale to weigh, and when home that evening after cutting it up , it weighed in at 35kg.

Even the scale i had could max 10kg , so i weighed fillets and guts, head etc. Am sure it lost at least a kilo or two since the am to evening.

I am 6ft2" , so the pic says it all , and that i had no fight left in me for the day and was one happy chap.

Took three pics and enlarged the one on thread to about 80x 40cm for study.Hanging there and look at it just ab every day.

Am gr8full for the large specimen , and want now a large Southern Pompano of 20kg +. That is a good fight.

Hear from u guys and yr catches.

Regards Ben.

Absolutly awsome fish.Nothing better than a GT off the beach on a plug. My pb is a 25kg (?) GT on an Aubrey da Gama chisel nose at Mapelane
