Hi Guys I am a spearo in Cape Town who is willing to drive any where in the Western Cape over weekends or any where on the Cape Peninsula to get BIG Fish, (Not Hotties OR butterfish OR Zebra fish etc!). I see the reports are looking great for this weekend, but I'm tired of driving 100km + only to find dirty water or hotties! So can anyone point me in the right direction to find, Yellow tail, Geelbek, Cracker etc. I have a fishing ski and will paddle far enough!

Thanks guys would appreciate a decent fish on the braai and my freezer is looking a little emplty!

Hi Steamer,

Good bet is Arniston, a few spots possible depending on yoru diving. Saxon reef is home to some brute yellowtail, and can get decent cracker there, white steenbras, big red stump, bankies etc.  But can also get whites there every now & then.  Inshore there is Roman bank which every now and then produces a quality fish - I know of a 14 kilos white steenrbas shot there, a 9 kilo baardie amongst others.  Also can try Porter rock on the point to the right of the slipway, I know of a 17 kilo cracker shot there.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Tony

Hi Steamer,I agree with JensenT.Arniston is probably your best bet within close driving distance (220 km's),and Saxon Reef is definitely diveable off the ski if the swell allows. The Quin Point area was also a nice dive area but has since been closed thanks to Kort Broek trying to curb poaching, which hasn't deterred them in the slightest.

Hi guys thanks for the advice! I've dived the area a bit but never seem to get the viz! but will keep trying! which winds bring the right water, ie for the ytail and reasonable viz??

Generally a SW wind clears the water up,although this year the water on that part of the coast has been consistently dirty.
