Spearing gloves

I've got a pair of neoprene gloves which are general purpose, about 3mm think and I think pretty useless for spearing. I think a thinner pair might be better but what are the recommended options?

Full of cuts this morning...

Tricky one

I know I should wear gloves but I find the lack of sensitivity a real problem.

I try to be more careful when killing and stringing the fish.

Try wearing a glove on just the non shooting hand and use that hand for the heavy work.

Try looking around at the safety clothing shops they sell a knitted glove that is impregnated with rubber. They might feel a little stiff at first but they good. Pay attention to the wrist elastics,(must be also rubber impregnated) as they are the first part to fail on you.

IMO, I think the gloves that you get from Rabitech and even Sportmans Warehouse are ideal. Think they are called Saekodive. They have a thin black neoprene tops and grey leather on the palms. Replace every year if you are diving whitewater for crackers- especially the left glove- and don't go for crayfish with them!

Hiya

I also dislike the leather gloves and have used the Saeko dive gloves for quite a while. They're very thin and offer good protection.

How-ever, i switched over to those cotton gloves with a plastic type palm. You can buy them at De-la-rey/Builders Wharehouse or hardware. Many commercial fishing tackle shops also sell them. They're ridiculously cheap, costing between R10-20 for a pair. I now exclusively use them, for all kinds of spearing.

Check picture below with a friend who borrowed a pair:

You can get gloves with a light PVC palm and fingers from CB agencies.

You can also cut the tips off you thumb an forefinger (Glove that is ), for sensitivity.

I use the Oceanic glove with a leather palm

I've checked out Sportsmans WH, R295. I asked the sales guy if it was a misprint and he said no. Nutcases
I'll have to check out Builders WH and CB. Will let ya know in due course what I've found.

You'll get those rubber/PVC coated gloves at any place that sells industrial safety products or alternatively Shoprite Checkers also sell them for about R 15-00 to R 25-00 per pair.

Oceanic Gloves you can get from Mike's Dive shop. Speak to Mike or Terry.

Thanks to Moggy and Aldo, spot guys!! CB agencies had them for I think R18 bucks!!
Just get the smallest pair you can I reckon!! I prefer a "glove like" fit and they soften in the water.

No more buggered fingers!! Yay!
Enjoy
