HiI'm a french fisherman coming to your country in march.I'd like to make some fishing but your country is big ad it's not easy to find some accurate information.I saw it was possible to fish barbel on the fly, it seems amazing, could you give me some advices on places where to fish, the easiest for me would be on my way from Joburg to Kruger. Then we will spend some time on the coast between Mozambique border and Durban, so perhaps you have information about fishing in that area (I don't want to go with fishing charters or trolling in the deep sea).
Thanks ofr your help !

You should go trolling off between durban and mozambique! Tuna, marlin, dorado, king mackerel, wahoo all frequent those waters

Otherwise barbel (catfish) can be caught on fly, I used to do it as a kid for kicks..They are keyed into vibration and noise of bait rather than with sight, in the last few years popping for barbel has become really popular..Search "baber roep" (barbel calling) or barbel calling..A popper ahead of your fly is the way. Local guides will be cheap for you if y are coming with your euros, I wholly recommend looking into which guides are on the waters you will be visiting. Yellowfish on fly..now you are talking! Look into that. Also in the areas you are going, tigerfish maybe available, look it up. The surf fishing too in that area between durban and mozams can also be epic, chisel nose plugs, spoons, slow jigging etc on a 20lb braid, 10-11ft rig the norm.. Small GT's and other kingfish or trevally, queen mackerel, leervis (garrick), shad or elf (bluefish/taylor) and kabeljou or cob (drum) should all be around.
