Sooo...what a weekend.
Thursday we went to a dam. Nothing. Cold water, veeery dirty.
Friday my bud Matthias and I went to a dam in Cape Town. We arrived at 11:00 and met a fellow tuber on the water. We had a good chat. Then we went to our own parts of the dam. I went to some bullrushes with some thick grass mats growing against it. I pitched my Gambler ugly Otter(Hurricane craw) right against the roots/stems of the bullrushes and felt a few sharp taps when it hit the bottom. I set the hook hard and pulled him out from a canopy of 20-30cm grass. Tipped the scale at 1.3kg.
Unfortunately no-one could get any other fish.
The following day I went down to a local dam in the area for a few hours. I got on the water and started pitching the reed line. I got to a pocket and pitched the Ugly Otter into a hole in the weeds. I swam it out and I saw a flash...strike...nothing but a broken tail. Rigged up again and pitched into the same hole, swam it out and saw that same fish. Caught that little bugger.
I released him and pitched to a point of reeds next to me and got eaten on the fall. I hooked him well and he fought like a boss
1.25kg
Later that afternoon I started pitching the shady area of the reeds. I pitched in between these 2 stems of reeds and felt a subtle tap. Another fish aboard.
I pitched back to the same area and started swimming it back when a largie came out of the green to chow it.
Was a good day.
Today, BassNinjaV and myself went to a private dam to see if we could get some fat mommas. Boy...beautiful place.
We arrived and worked the lillies, laydowns, and weeds. Nothing. We fished 3/4 of the dam when Vaughn set the hook on a dink.. He made a cast further down close to a line of reeds and set the hook damn hard. Landed a bloody good fish!
With some confidence I pitched in and under a concrete slab sort of thing. I felt a sharp tap and drove the hook home. Here comes this pikinin dink of a fish. I laughed and just dangled my rod over the edge in disbelief. He just plopped back into the water.
I made my way a few meters ahead and pitched in the corner where some reeds met some other type of vegetation. I klapped that fish so hard I think his teeth fell out.
1.56kg.
All products used available at Ol' Bigmouth and Outdoors.
The Gambler Ugly Otter is quickly working it's way up the ranks to be my go-to bait.
I think it might be so ugly that fish want to kill it?
I've had a great weekend but...for now...back to school.
Vaughn's 2 fish. And the piggy of 1.8kg
