Hi Sealiners,

Sorry, this post as nothing to do with fishing...but some freaking idiot hacker as accessed my yahoo mail account and he is sending spam mail under my name with some bullshit story that I am in trouble and need some $$$...he has also changed my password so I cannot access my mail to advise all my contacts about it.

Therefore I am using all possible methods to do so!

I apologise for any inconvenience...for all of you who were on my mailing list or had my contact I have changed my mail address to:

dudas7mares@gmail.com

please send me a mail with your contact.

There are some pretty whacked people on this planet!!!

Cheers guys,

Duarte
He has also got into my facebook which I am unable to access as well, so anything coming from that side is Spam and fraud as well...

Jeesh!

Can you at least send Facebook an e-mail for them to close down your profile?

And how does one stop it from happening next time?

What about your banking?

Hectic!

The easiest way to make sure that this doesn't happen is by choosing a secure password. Something like 'password' isn't exactly secure. You need to use a combination of everything. Lower case and upper case numers and even special character if its allowed. A good password would be something like '!k9I5zX&ow'

Make sure it is at least 8 digits long. Not a name, not a word that can be found in a dictionary, something that no one close to you can guess like Dates of Birth. Something abstract like my example is good as the only way to crack that password is through brute force and that will take months.

Change passwords regularly. Don't write them down. Don't use public computers if you can avoid it. etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys,

Believe me, my password was pretty complicated...in latin & with numbers and all sorts!!!
Have spoken to a IT guy in London and he tells me yahoo as been geting all sorts of problems and they can actually retrive your password however complicated...its not a guessing game but one that they actually hack into the system as you are logging in.

Its a nightmare, been getting non stop phone calls through out the night....just hope no one acually falls for this idiot's scheme...

Feeling pretty hopeless I can't get hold of most of my contacts, if any of yo guys have a mass mail from me please forward it to my new mail so that I can get hold of as much people as possible!!!

Cheers

Bud, chances are you have some kind of bot on your home/work PC, the fact that both your Facebook and Yahoo accounts have been hacked makes me think that is a real possiblity. Most dangerous thing here is that if there IS a rootkit on your machine these people will also get into your online banking when you use it...

Happened to my Yahoo Mail account as well. It is not so much a person as a program that has hacked you. A virus. I merely stopped using my Yahoo address and created a non-wab based mail account. This way it becomes a lot more difficult.

Yahoo is prone to plenty spam - and if you have an account it is guaranteed to get tons of junk mail. This junk should never be opened as they contain activity actioned viruses. This means that as you open them - the virus is activated and then it goes to work. As much as possible - read the mail in the preview pane of Outlook (obviously not possible with web based - Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo etc) as this does not clasify as opening the mail.

Just my 2c worth...

Maybe off topic.

I am receiving warnings in my anti virus and firewall program about attempts to get into my machine.

"Unauthorized Access Blocked" (Open process token)

"an attack on your computer was blocked"  IP adress of threat was supplied. (I deleted everything though)

Times of these actions correspond with the time I am online here.(no other tabs open)  ::cop:

Somebody in the know care to shed some light on this/ ( I use a web based mail service)  not online when on this site.....

Hi Duarte,

I got that mail from your mail address and added it to my junk box. Lots of scams going around.

Cheers and good luck!

The net is a minefield.

Use an anti virus, independent anti spyware as well as a firewall.

Most importantly dont open email attachments. Its just not worth it.

However. Imagine if it went viral globally and people started sending you tons of cash.
