I like the oil pastels idea, just won't work for me as I need to measure the exact droplets of colouring to get the consistancy in all the shoots.

Craft glitter ? when do you add it and how hot does your plastisol get, reason for asking is that all the diffirent makes of glitter (craft glitter) i used melted and became colouring for the plastisol, so instead of having a green lure with red glitter I had a brown worm without glitter?

Yep for commercial manufacturing process and for colour consistancy the liquid colour makes sense.For DIY purposes and own sp use a box of pastels is same price as one colour in liquid form.But youre be surprised how consistent the colour is using a stanley blade to cut off button like sections.

As far as the glitter goes only the fine stuff flopped for me.Also had the plastisol change colour to that of the glitter.The glitter I ad just before the last 20 second heat before pouring.Also no probs with reheating,just stir liquid properly as the glitter collects in centre of the bottom of the jug.

I've got a big bag of reflective glass beads which I've used with great success the only hassle is that the beads like settling on the bottom. It's a constant story of mixing the cooked plastisol very well just before pouring...

Also a little goes a long way... I've had to hold back on adding too much glitter and colour. With the pastel crayons I've found that shaving a few slivers off the side with a stanley blade is more than enough to get a nice rich colour...

Sorry Bennie, not yet... Although I have perfected my 'Cracker Prawns' (4 different designs), just want to finish trials... No point in selling or marketing something that I'm not convinced will catch fish.

I find there's stacks of stuff on the market and as has been said before on Sealine, most of the stuff is their to catch fisherman, not fish.

When you start seeing results on your stuff it is very gratifying!

This is Eric who caught a Skipjack Tuna on one of my sardines this weekend. I had forgotten about this lure until Saturday.

Good to see it is not in a frame somewhere. Can not wait for December to see if mine gets some.

You know Bennie it's guys like you that inspire me... If you can see it in your mind then you are already more than half way there. Taurucks posts on making moulds is concise and highly informative, your posts on making prototypes, painting, bending the wire inserts, etc. are superb. I think what I'm trying to say is "Thank you, to all the guys who share their wealth of knowledge so openly and freely on Sealine".

Last week Thursday Ryan and I took a handful of soft-bait prototypes (cracker prawns) and jigged a bit @ South Pier. The trials went extremely well, unfortuantely neither one of us were able to land anything. 8 of my prawns were bitten off, the entire trace was gone, although whatever it was, was kind enough to leave my swivel... lol. Ryan had the same results... We are going to make up short nylon coated steel traces in an attempt to see what's showing such interest...

Just to add... Whatever it was was very aggresive/violent... We were fishing along the Dolles, and in amongst the bricks... It wasn't a nibble, these were solid hard strikes, very quick... Hit, hit... Stirke... Trace off... So I would think it's something 'toothy'...

Today I open up the first side of moulds I made of shrimps and something similar to a small Onde-Onda. I'm going to add those to the trials... Get the colours and the scents spot-on...

The weather was fierce the day (afternoon after 4:00pm) we went down to do trials, it was raining, very overcast and the wind was howling what was nice although is that the water was very clear...

How about a sneak peak of the new lures?

Bennie did not mention that one of the Demon Tuna Squids, rigged with a through wire and ball weights raised a Yellowfin Tuna.

Fiddling with lures are almost more fun than fishing them... I say almost....... cos you will never beat the feeling of landing a fish on your own lure or innovation!

And while we are on the subject about "Last week" my lures also produced a Big eye and unfortunately dropped a Sailfish and a GT.

I have always been thinking that we need a good cracker-prawn immitation!!! My scultping skills are not up to scratch, so I gave up on that idea, so I am glad that it is being done by somebody!

I am also making some "Fonda's" for my own use, and am planning on making my own version!

Plastisols, colours, glitters, injectors and molds all available here in SA send me a PM with e-mail and I'll send you a price list. Heat resistant glitters are very important in plastisol. Eviltoy send me a Pm we are going to Langebaan this weekend to catch 8kg Elf on plastics bud. I'll post pic's.
