So after a long 9 months of blanking......Langebaan brings some light at the end of the tunnel!........friday arrive at Langebaan at about 10ish the morning, go grab some mussel at the bait shop and i decide to buy my bro a reel for his bday, a nice Shimano Speedmaster......anyway, get our stuff together, have a couple of cold ones and then decide to wet the lines......get to the water at about 6 the evening, cast a few, then getting some small bites and eventually wapow i'm on.....reel in with ease(because i own a Daiwa lol) only to find itz a gurnard haha anyway we continue, bam again 2 minutes later.....only to find its another one lol......so we call it a night.....up early, hitting the water at 7 very little bites by two or three o'clock so we decide we gonna hit the other beach to get some prawn and call it a night........this morning we decide to check out another spot further along the beach......first throw bam my bro is on......very excited as itz his first fish......nice sized stumpnose.....and in the cooler box for the braai, two minutes later bam his on again......even more excited coz this ones head shaking putting up a fight for him, as it comes to the surface he gets more excited coz we see itz about 50 60cm, pull it out to see its a flat sand shark.........lol now hes adrenalin is pumping.......releases it....and five minutes later wapow i'm on, 40cm stumpnose....in the cooler box.........

Good day of fishinf, we musta caught about 30 35 stumpnose for the day........good fun......good weekend.......

I wasn't too impressed with the speedmaster though......its loud when you reel in compared to my Sealine, both of them you can hear the bearings, but the speedmaster is much louder than mine.......whats your guys thoughts? is it coz its more plastic than mine or are the Shimanos in general a bit loudere than the Daiwas or maybe itz just that particular reel? anyway he'shappy with it, i just wanna know why they so loud?

congrats on breaking the blank..nothing like sweet revenge..as for the sound you do know that shimano makes mountain bikes as well so theres a kinda non-proven theory that bicycle parts are used in the reel..sure thats the first thing you thought that it sounds like a bicycle..

Great fishing!

The speedmaster has a 'spring loaded' dog pawl. That is the sound you are hearing when reeling in. This little feature prevents your handle from going in reverse when fighting a fish and giving you a few bruised knuckles.

thanks for the heads up...

some residents are confused and don't like it when fishing there... thats because there is an old sign up NO FISHING...

krillen that noise you hear is a sound of quality.the pawl gear makes that clicking sound. your brother will enjoy it for years to come, if he services it regularly.good to hear the stumps are biting.i'll tackle them this coming weekend.5-6 feb that is.
