So a spur of the moment decision and bought a little amberjack 420 riverboat for use at Bushmans river..
Planning to get my cat R skippers soon before i take it for it's first outing.
Questions as I need to start making a list of whats needed etc.

Safety equipment - apart from life jackets.. what else is mandatory/good to have?

Registrations for rivers - where would I do this for Bushmans?

Cat R skipper license - any recommendations in PE area? any idea on costs? R2100 i got quoted by a local PE company.. reasonable?

I paid R1800 a few years ago for Cat E,so R2100 sounds about right...At Gouritz river we just paid to use the slip when we fished there,but could buy a year pass too..only worth it if you are going to use the river often

Hi,
You can do your skippers at The Rodclub in swartkops, and i agree with Goliat, do your Cat E (1nm) skippers, its the same test you just need n bit more hours.

For Bushmans river you would need to register at Port Alfred marina. There is a boat shop their were you can get your boat registered for the surrounding rivers.

PS. don't forget about Fish River, one of the best Giigg Grunter fishing around.

You can upgrade from a cat R to E once you log the 50 hours on the sea, so you don't have to go for the cat E from the start. You don't have to write the exam again to upgrade.

Yes good point, but you can have your hours ready and signed off at the exam to receive your 1nm. This is afcorce if you have done the houers neede.
