Luckily in Durban we don't have to work the kelp, only got to watch the morays!

thats true i have seen 2 eels thus far...heads popping out of the rocks...i went close to him and he did nothing...they seem harmless unless you interfer with them....i think.....and papa don't worry i will keep you guys informed how my experiences are....and many thanks to all the guys that assisted me here...i will never forgot all the advice........
one more question....if u see a cray that is in a round hole in the middle of a tall rock...there is only place for him to fit in there, and all u can see is his 2 long feelers.....how do you take him out???

hi guys, i have been in the water this weekend, and what an awsum experience it was.
1. the big crayfish tends to hold on tight and wiggle alot when u catch them.
2. the smaller ones tend to run away so u have to follow them, they bloodly quick in the water...esp when i released them.

guys, which tides are the best ones to dive to see more crayfish ? high, low, springs??? help please

Nooit bru, I am just a recreational bug catcher! Love catching them creepy crawlies...

But come March I'll be out there looking for them, we should all hook up and go dive together.

Ha! Firstly I have to point out that I love catching crays... started in the Cape a few years ago and actually found that kelp wasn't an issue - often used it to pull myself down when feeling lazy - just sometimes pulls your mask off when coming up through it.

Eels in KZN can be problematic though so watch for that. Touch wood - have not been bitten yet but have a couple of scars on my hands from rocks etc.

Now that the licence has gone up to 500 Ront I think my crayfishing career may come to an abrupt halt.

Ja, those eels are real buggers!

500 Ront... we will all be buying our permits this month for the start of the season on the 1st, so at least we have a minimum of one last "cheap" season left! I think the 1st is on a Monday.. so leave will be booked in advance :)

I used to dive Umdloti extensively all the way to Peace (Piece? Peas?) cottage, but that was because my diving partner had a house at the bottom of south beach road. He has now sold it, and I am too lazy to walk far, so I need to find some new spots.

Bhugwav - done deal!
We should organise a Sealine social dive sometime in March. I'd probably be away at the start of the season, but would be keen for a little dive and bug-braai.
