yes jokes aside the thought of having snakeheads in our waters will be a disaster. but still we need proof of this snakehead myth.

from what ive read on google these things are big and strong enough to take on 3 kilo bass!the fight on tackle must be immense, maybe theyre not so bad afterall.
Ecologically all i can say is that if this is true and the snakeheads and their apetites are here then its bye bye bass,kurper,carp,yellows...etc

As we are on the topic of snakeheads I thought I might post some pictures of a few recent catches from here in Taiwan. A friend and I target these guys exclusively as they are tremendously hard fighting fish and really exciting to catch as you target them with top water lures. The hits are explosive and hard. I must also add that they are note the easiest fish to catch! We target 2 species, one is the Striped Snakehead or Haruan, these guys don't get very big, up to about 4kg at the very most, we usually catch them in them in the 200g to 1.5kg class, 1.5kg being a really big Haruan. The second species that we target is the Giant Snakehead or Toman, these guys are rumored to grow up to 20kg! I'm not sure that they actually do get that big, as the IFGA word record is at around 10kg only.

Here are a few pics of the Toman I have recently caught:

Taiwan PB 2.03kg

Old thread but you can buy exotics like snakehead, alligator gar and other exotic species at certain pet shops in Kzn. Red belly pirannah is also around. Just a question of time before some are set free as they grow to big for the fishtanks

Zucas 922 can you factually say that you have heard about snakeheads in our waters and do you know of people that have seen or caught them ?  If that is the case then it must be reported asap to the Provincial Fauna and Flora with all the details.  I hope you are wrong my friend.  I have just posted information about the law regarding live transport of any indigenous in invasive species and the releasing thereof in river systems and the illegality of that.  Please everybody go and read it it is called VERVOER EN VRYLATING VAN LEWENDIGE VIS.  Let us all do our part and let us inform other anglers and the public about the law regarding this topic and let us all do our part for conservation.
