Howzit Gents.

Fishing brings us into contact with all types of critters so its a good thing to know what you dealing with.

Battling to ID this guy that I found in our pool at Jozini. By its tail shape and how it moved its head in erratic movements it seems to be a Stiletto. Can anyone confirm or correct.

Thanks

Agree - stiletto

But looks hell of alot like a mole snake as well

Very venomous vs Harmless

Stilleto

Most definitely not a mole snake. Wrong head shape and a juvenile Mole snale of this length would still have the juvenile ornate colour patterns

Thanks for the confirmation guys. Good thing he got handled with a very long pool net! Just should have let him loose further from the house :?

Mole snakes are totally different as Enigma pointed out :)

...and I didnt even pick it up! It turned 180 degrees and stretched its body length up and out to tag my finger. Amazing accuracy for a practically blind snake haha

Yup, Southern Stiletto!NEVER pick them up! They dont have fixed fangs and so are able to manouver their fangs outside of the mouth. Had a mate who thought it was a legless skink, picked it up and is now minus a finger!
