Snags

Hi guys
what's your guys take on shaggy waters
How do you fish them
I constantly have the problem of hooking the fish and losing it because it gets stuck
I just can't seem to get past this

Any help and advice will be very much appreciated

Do what the specimen anglers do and draw up a map of the area in front of you and mark where (ie distance and position) where you snag and then don't cast there again.

Cut one hook off and fish with 1 hook only

Use as light as possible rig and as strong as possible line and go up in hook size, as big as a #3.

With your chart you now know where the snags are and then steer the fish away from the snag ie stand on the left of the swim and pull it hard away from the snag on the right.

When the fish is still far you can pull quite hard as there is a lot of stretch to help out.

As it comes closer yo have better control and height on the fish and less stretch so slow down on the pulling or you will pull it off.

If you still snag and keep loosing fish pack up and move.

If it;'s in a comp and you have to stay fish hard, pull hard and try land fish.

Agree with enigma, when i start getting stuck when landing a fish, immediately cut off the second hook. I normally find in any case on a rietvlei rig 90% of the fish get hooked on the bottom hook so i actually prefer fishing 1 hook.

What about using hooklinks with less breaking straing that your leader or mainline? So if you do get snagged on the second hook, it will break off before your other line, is that a good idea?

That sounds like a good idea also grassy carp
Someone else also told me to use a shorter trace
There was an article about a small kite to be added to your mainline to prevent snags as the line immediately rises
Did anybody read about it and have experience with this
