So at the end of this week I will be having some time off for myself and just want to break away from the rush off the emergency ward, with the weather getting colder was wondering if it would be worth it to go in search of some Smallmouth Bass and if any one knows of a few good spots closer to home, other than the waters in the Cape that are a bit out of the question for a weekend break from Centurion (ps I wont tell the greenies[/i])

Fished for them in Ebenezer a few times, but that’s pushing the distance a bit again, want to do as much fishing as possible before heading back to the boiling pot.

Anyone Please

Pretty please

Shiyalungubu dam near Barberton has smallies....this is the oldest dam in Mpumalanga. there is however no accomodation next to the dam. Closest will be Barberton or Low's creek. You require a 4x4 & boat to make it worth your while. It is quite a climb to get to the dam that is situated right on the swaziland border. It's about 50 km from Malelane, but at about a 950 meter above sealevel. If you are really adventurous.....take a three day trip down to the lowveld. Fish one day Smallies @ Shiyalungubu, 1 day largemouth at Driekoppies and one day Tigerfish in the Komati

@ rrebello
Middelburg dam unfortuanatly none it seems anymore the gent I spoke to a Gani's for info regarding this told me that since the arrival of the Largemouth in the dam the Smallies took a hit and numbers declined, internet research also suggested simular.

@ Fiserwoman
Thank you verry much. Great thats a offer I will keep in mind and definitly will keep in touch when I get to go down that side again its not often but will do so sometime within this year still.

If you look back in posts in the past i started a topic of smallmouth venue. We have land, we have fish. Just need to bring the two together and then I will post full details. Still got a lot to do

Hello all

Sorry bout the long absence but got called away to family for the weekend that I was planning on going to try my hand at smallmouth, but since it seems all the worthwile smallies are finning the Cape's waters I am going to have to pospone the search for a decent sized smallie till I get down that side of the country again.
For all the advice on where to go in search of smallies closer to home thanks for sharing all, I enjoy fishing for these guys so knowing where to begin looking for them next time is half the trip

Once again thanks

Blyderivierpoort Dam has plenty of smallies as far as I know. Does anyone know if one is allowed to fish this dam?
