Small Bass boat.

Is there a need for a small Bass boat about 3m x 1,8m wide with a shallow draft that would probably handle a 15Hp motor? Catamaran type, lightweight, stable platform. For the small dams where outboards are banned. We all know that if you arrive at these venues with a small motor on a fishing boat the authorities normally turn a blind eye. Something affordable?. Your opinions.

and the answer is a Most Deffinate YES, i've got a mariner and know some of the guys here that als has something similar, and let me tell you that, there's just no way i will fish without it, yes i sometimes do bankangling but for the most i use my small ducky, now having said that, take into consideration that I have nothing else that floats which i can fish from, so perhaps if I had say a normal bassboat, well then the only diffs would be that I'd use the ducky perhaps on a less frequent basis but i'd still use it....

Hey LGF, thanks. I've had this idea for a while. Check the pic, sorry it's upside down, you have to use your imagination. Pontoons like this one but in the molding process the mold is made in such a way that the cental section is able to be produced in varying widths.  A Cat boat that can be built to the needs of the cuzzy. The rod storage could be built into the pontoons. Deck layout can be configured in mutiple ways as well.  A small boat with unlimited possibilities. I've started anyway so there's no going back I guess.

I've been looking for something I can load onto my DC bakkie for a quick outing with a 30lb TM...don't always want to hook up the bigger boat with lots of HPs on it's ass...Sounds and looks saleable. I'm sure you will find the market with the right advertising approach.

@ Tauruck, no probs bud was just wondering, anyhows, please post some more pics of the progress up and to the completion of this boat as I for one am very curious as to what the deck will look like?

Perhaps we should start making molds for smallish, say half sized, osprey's/viper's etc.

On that topic, do you reckon it would be cheaper to build a bassboat rather than to buy another type of boat and convert it into a proper bass-boat (including salvaging wrecked hulls?)

LGF. I'd love to see pics of those Ospreys and Vipers. Where can I find them. On my deck, I'm thinking of having my hatch molds detachable from the deck so that I can change the configuration to suit everyones taste. What do you think? Thanks in advance.

To convert is cheaper and easier provided you get a good hull. The deck gets tossed anyway. A wrecked hull is what it is. Most of the boats are made from chopped strand glass and if the hull has taken a good "klap" it should still be repairable but sometimes you just can't see stuff beneath the surface with the deck still on it. If you get a boat with a lekker hull the deck doesn't count. I'll have that thing off in no time. The sweet thing about a modification like this is that you can choose where you want to put your hatches etc.

Tauruck, personaly I think that would make it even better for sales if it can be customised that way, by simply adding or repalcing compartments, but will this not become a bulky deck then ito of height then?

Mombakkie, you see that's more or less what I had in mind perhaps slightly bigger but not full size, dunno, I'm still pondering the feasibility of such a project and if it's gonna be worth while fishing from it after all the money and effort that'll go into something like this......

For those of you interested in the http://www.elshaddai.co.za/spider.htm

Here are some pics of my customised spider, you can get some ideas if you planning to DIY. It was advertised at 25 I offered 20 and the guy said yes.

It came complete with:

  • 2007 15hp Mercury Motor - had done 15 hours (worth 18k odd on its own)[/*]
  • Customised trailer (add 10k)[/*]
  • Trolling motor (soon to change to a fot controlled)
    [/*]
  • Fishfinder[/*]
  • Live well[/*]
  • Bilge Pumps
    [/*]
  • Nice deck & Hatches[/*]
Ive used it on Kwaggas, bulshoek, clan, fischer haven, brak very lekker. Just need to watch the wind and be responsible.

Its nice an light, can lauch it myself and i tow it with my 14 Citi Golf.

I seriously doubt i would have been able to customise this thing, customise a trailer and stick a pretty much brand new motor on it for 20K.
