Sliding and the Makaira 15ft

Hi All,

I trust everyone is doing well.

I have the Makaira 15ft 7-9oz which I use for in-eds. Currently with 50lb braid.

I do enjoy sliding but my current sliding setup is rather awful. Wondering if getting a spare spool for the BG 8000 and adding mono to that for sliding might work?

The rod is quite stiff so unsure if its the best sliding rod.

Any advise or assistance?

sliding of bait works best when mono is used.

one can slide on braid, but it aint easy...you need to try different things to get the bait in the water.

so n spare spool with mono will work.

if a rod is not stiff, then sliding is a little different wrt a stiff rod.

you need to get the slack in the line in order to get the slide moving forward.

but once you get the hang of it, it is really easy.

practice makes perfect

but your rod is ok for sliding, nothing wrong with it

I've been sliding with my 14'6" and 15' for 2 years plus now with ZERO issues.

I slide on plain braid and on some occasions have 80m of 0.55 topshot on

Sliding with braid is more a shake than a slide and it works super simple, takes a bit longer and you mustn't hurry or you pull the sinker loose with the Braid having ZERO stretch.

With the short topshot you start the slide on braid but it works fine

If I'm not using the Grinder I slide with the rod using a Torium 50 with my standard line and topshot, cast out a 10ozx and slide as if it is any other rod

Baie interessant Craig

Indien moontlik, kan jy dalk wys hoe die rig verskil teenoor gewone multiplier en slide?

Non return+ trace en waar alles kom op die braid?:)

Daar is Zero verskil. Als werk dieselfde.

Verbinding tussen braid en mono werk presies dieselfde as met konvensionele slide

Hi Enigma
It is interesting that you are able to use a multiplier with the "Grinder" rod.  Is there much of a difference compare to using the normal multiplier rods when casting a multiplier?  I have contemplated it , never tried it, but now will definitely try it :)
I have the Metaloid and will probably get the Makiara at some-point before my next trip.

The Makaira and Metaloid work just fine with the multiplier

You'll never know if you don't try. It wont break the rod

There are comments saying you cannot slide on braid and I am saying you can.

So when my Eu clients want to cast and slide themselves they do it straight on braid.

Later there were questions on whether one can cast a multiplier on a Grinder rod and yes you can. I use my Torium 50 and Talica 25 on the Grinder rods.

These rods are stronger than old T24 multiplier rods. Then sliding is as per old school sliding

I have slid many baits on a reel that has 80-100m of topshot over the braid, start sliding on braid and end on 0.50mm mono.

So in short:

You can slide using the rod with a Grinder or Multiplier and using straight braid or mono topshot over braid backing. I've done all the above and all work.

Least expensive option is mono topshot

Straight through braid is the strongest option

A rod is a rod and you use it as you want.

Thanks for the well founded tips.
Too many novices out there, getting their lower backs into the shark game.

@ Enigma Dis die tipe ervaring en kennis wat Sealine ongelooflik maak! Nou kan ek my 15 ft Makaira bietjie toets.

Dankie!

@Psy That would be me lol. (Hence over excited report)
A shorter /more stiff rod might make life easier and on my back haha!((goodp_
