Hi Trophy,
How do you finish off the half flemish twist with carbon coated wire as it has no nylon to melt and bond the twist. Is just the shrink wrap enough to hold the twist in place?
I see that even the bottom circle hook is snelled. Isn't a circle hook designed to work on a loop knot so that it can swivel properly when it sets? I would have thought a flemish twist would have been the better option.

circles are designed to be snelled and it DOES increas your hook up rate alot!

you can melt carbon coated it isnt carbon but rather blackish grey nylon. but i dont and never have had one come loose!
circles are designed to be snelled and it DOES increas your hook up rate alot!

I would then assume that it is important to have the trace wire coming out of the back of the eye as this would assist the circle in swiveling forward when the hook sets. I may be sounding a bit too technical but often little things make a big differance.
I have also heard that a circle must be offset AND to the right! Apparently there is a 75% better chance of hooking a fish with a circle that is oppset to the right as apposed to one offset to the left?
I think I will ask this question on Trophy's guide to offsetting a circle hook as it will be more relevant on that thread.

On the circle hook knots, I have been using them for about two years now and have tried a number of knots. I have not noticed much difference between a straight 'tight' knot, a flemish eye 'loose' knot and a snell that comes through the front or back?
The most common way is a snell knot with the line through the front, opposite to what I have posted. I have since started doing it that way...if only to stop folks from asking, "should your snood come out the front of the circle" LoL
I like an off-set hook, but many folks say it's not needed. I just feel more confident this way and a confident angler catches more fish!
I don't believe that making a circle hook off-set will cause a massive increase in gut hook-ups or change the action of the hook away from doing what a circle hook does best.
