single splice wind on leader

Hi Guys

When making a single splice wind-on how does one secure the inner decron to stop it enraveling, would braiding it more than five time assist? (yet to try a single splice).

The one i purchased of the shelf was single spliced but opened up after a few casts. Possibly tying it down with dental floss or braid might resolve.

Also does anyone know of guys that stock 50lb or lighter,Decron in Durban Area

Anyone has any experience with kevlar? Apparently its stronger than decron and has the same characteristics but cant seem to find a table showing kevlar strenghth to leader diameter ratios.

Any assistance will help

Chieff... Kevlar is probably 10x the cost of Dacron...! We use Kevlar cord for making our own Assist Hooks - but then you only use 10-15cm at a time and it lasts forever... also I don't think the Kevlar is hollow... you won't be able to thread it...

The Single splice method works just like the Braid Stitch splice... stitch it through itself 5 or 6 times and there's no ways that it's going to come loose. Don't waste your time with the bought Wind-ons... they're really useless...
Most of the top guys are now using the single splice method, but I still smark my double splice!!::S

Always test your tackle before you use it... put serious pressure on your Wind-on before you use it... confidence in your tackle is paramount.

Heres my post on making a single splice windon

http://www.sealine.co.za/view_topic.php?id=30670&forum_id=57&highlight=making+windon

I've since upgraded the process:

Loop made with Tanaka splice
1/8th of the dacron is double over the nylon
Binding is done with Gudebrod rig take (wider waxed floss)
Nylon is threaded with Daho hollow windon needles.

Will have to make a new pictorial next week.

If the Tanaka spliced loop opens I'll give you 100 free windons the diameter of your choice
