As far as I know the Simonstown coast is a protected area because of the penquin colony. All fishing in Simonstown area is done from boats. The closest shore fishing is Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay. False Bay coast eg Strandfontein and Macasser are your best bets. Fishing in these areas is only advisable in groups as the locals pounce like vultures on anything of value. For the safest and most rewarding fishing, the Strand Reefs are your best bet. See the article in the RISING TIDE mag issue no1.

there is a reserve along the simonstown coast but it ends half way to millers point and extends to around the millers point clubhouse. There are some spots that you could fish along this stretch but it is very foul and mostly covered by seaweed..... fishing along here is mostly done by boat yes! Best is to consult the Do"s and donts and they have details of where the MPA's start and end
