Similar designe principles as to the TrinA series

Similar designe principles as to the TrinA series and is a 2 speed lever drag reel same in size as the TLD 25 but a completely free spool and castable.

Somewhere between a Tn40 and 50. Probably selling around R4500, monster and super smooth drag, easy casting, harness lugs (removable with plugs) Same frame design as the Trini A series.

No bridge over the top of the spool to facilitate casting (and undoing crows nests)

retrieve speed of 5.2:1 (tn50 4.9:1) and 2 speed is 2.3:1

As the gold Shimano 50 and the 50A won't be available this is the answer for the Shimano fan looking for a powerful, easy casting and good looking reel. The small 15 and 20 sizes will also be awsome reels in their own right.

Out of my budget but an awe inspiring reel and has to be a monster sharking reel.

The Shimano Talica Story: #1 CASTABILITY - A truly light weight spool for casting small livebaits such as Anchovies and Sardines is a must. So we aggressively machine the spool to maximize weight savings while maintaining strength. We also created a way to minimize drag created by water between the spool and the frame. 'Chovies and 'Dines are very light, and traditionally, to cast these baits, good anglers would "bump" the spool during the cast to get the spool moving and avoid the bait from flying out, then suddenly getting jerked down by line not coming off of the spool and slapping hard on the surface of the water. We took this one step further in defining the ability of Talica to cast well to mean underhand to enhance bait persentation. Now that the chum line will not be unattainable even when casting underhand, imagine how much further overhand will get you.

#2 POWER - Cranking force is a hard thing to explain until you are handed a reel with the fish on the other end. The use of High Efficiency Gears in high and low speeds sets Talica apart from all reels currently offered in the market. The incredible power in low and in high is what makes Talica a joy to battle big fish with. No longer will you have to decide between power in low gear or speed in high gear. Talica is the best of both worlds and lets you save your energy for hoisting that cow up for a photo!

#3 DRAG - A smooth drag is very important and one that Shimano prides itself upon throughout the product line. Talica is no exception to this rule. However, being able to fish 3 or 4 line classes heavier than you would normally on a reel of its size makes Talica more fun to fish since you spend a lot less time fighting your tackle and more time fighting the fish. Even the smallest Talica, TAC8II, will fish 50# PowerPro with ease!

#4 COMPACT - When you first lay your eyes on a Talica it's intriguing. When you feel what it's capable of it's amazing! An incredible amount of testing for ergonomics went into the design process of this reel and the feel of it confirms this. (We went through over 5 different gearbox angles and shapes before we were happy with it!) Don't let Talica's small stature and lightweight fool you, this reel is a beast!

Looks good, I would just love to have feedback once somebody had actually had a cast with the reel. These reels don't have a shoulder on the spool which is not ideal for castingm

The other isse I have with leverdrags is that they are tradtionally terrible for wading (my dad has used them for surf fishing for ages). The drags are amazing though and super smooth, even with felt washers.

So does this officially mean no Trini50A?

Hi

If you check pic #1, when the drag is free'd for casting the spool moves out exposing a shoulder for casting

If you read the specs on the reel, when in operation mode (ie. out of Free Spool) the drag system is sealed and water tight.

The smaller ones could be used for wading but I doubt the 25 would be a wading reel for that we have the 20/40 with Carbontex Plus an extra washer

I apologise for the hint of scepticism in my post, the only reason for my comments/questions is that i want to buy a large reel for sharks, and i want to buy once without looking back. at this stage it looks like its either a torium 50 or a leverdrag then, and as nice as the torium is its not my favourite reel.

thanks enigma

::S Yes Craig, I think this may be the answer to the guys quest for the T50.

I posted a pic of this reel some time last year, wondering when it was to be launched to the SA market. At the price you mention I don't believe it to be too excessive, considering the qualities it possesses. Hopefully with the $ falling to the Rand the price may well decrease and become more affordable.

Definitely a gaming reel for sliding and big baits.

Thnks for the info.

The trade show must have been awesome!!

Quite interesting but nowhere near previous shows. The fishing tackle trade is still buckling under the economy, here and internationally.

In 35 years involvement in some or other way this is the worst inland winter trade season experienced and many shops have closed their doors and a few may still if somethings doesn't happen soon

Biggest new was the opening of Commercial Marine in Boksburg and Swakop with branches planned for Walvis, Capetown, Durban and Bloem

For Carp anglers The launch of a few ranges with Carp Hunter topping the bill with their own Eu manufactured range anD SPRO Carp added

HugE input and range expanSion by Pure Fishing (berkLey and PEnn) Love the Nanofil line 300 strands of Dyneema heat fused and not braided (Fireline's big brother) did some testing on line and somE fireline on line breakers

14lbs fireline 35lbS, 8lbs is oveR 20
Jerry Brown 130 = 185 And the 50 = 67 turns out it's knot strength they rate on but Whiplash is 50lbs

How do you measure braid dia? You can't but you can weight 1gr of Whiplash and it's 11m and 1gr of HMP is 12.2m but only 4 strand and tests at 50lbs every time

As from a retailers point of view. Shimano reels are a comodity item and wE mark up 10% on average or noone will buy take off 5% for card transaction fee and cost to company then the retailer almost pays Shimano to be able to sell a SHimano so no the Price won't go down and if USA defaults next week the price will go up 50%

Very Nice reel, My Torium 50 will still last me a long long time but I will say that while I could not justify the additional cost in a Trinidad verses a Torium I can certainly bring myself to part with the extra bucks for a castable lever drag, harness lugs and 2 speed retreive. Just a pity it will probably hold less line than a Tor/Tn50.
Now I just hope my Torium lasts long enough for me to save for one of these.

It'll hold less but with the drag and ability to go from full to releas in a short stroke you can work the fish hard, making it work the stretch out of the line and then working it again. I reckon 15% loss of capacity but we'll have to test it.

With not 40A or 50A in sight this or the Avet Magnetised Casting lever drags (hold 1000m 65lbs Braid) would be the way to go.

If we're lucky then i'll get one of these babies for Hennie and I to go cast a bit and see how castable it really is.

I don't see myself buying one but I believe it will be the answer to no Trini 50A

Some quick feedback: I had a cast or two with my 25 today. Keeping in mind that this is my first reel of this size, I was averaging about 90m (NEED to get over 100m). I got the reel second hand, but I was told it has 500m HMP braid and 500m .55 on.
