Sick Bass

Hay guys,

I went fishing with some mates the other day on a private bass dam. only caught three fish between the four of us. (fished for about 2 hours) two good ones and one very sick large mouth. its head was about the size of a 1 - 1.2kg fish but it only weighed in at about 300g. it was skinny and had one white eye. my one friend said most fish that come out that dam looks like that.
the scary part is that the owner of this dam is a bass fisherman himself, and he fishes that dam every day. is that what happens to fish when they are under to much pressure? or is it just negligence?

didn't have a camera sorry, and not fisshing that spot soon again.

Sounds definately like a over population problem and a lack of food source. Typically bass get big heads and tiny bodies when they are over populated and underfed - they are also probably not that difficult to catch cause they are starvin and will eat just about anything that come their way.
Would suggest that he cull some of the fish that he catches and think possibly of bringing in some fodder fish (Kurper or some other indegenous fish species) to fatten the bass up.

the guy is a chop, doesn't care about the fish. The owner knows about this, he fishes there everyday. I really don't think he cares about the fish. I'm just in cape town, when i go to knysna again i will go check on the dam and see if the fish is better.
