Shimano Alivio 12ft 3lbs test curve snapped rod tip

Hi All,

Went to a local dam yesterday and after bringing in the line on my one alivio I notice the tip was snapped on the second eye from the top...WTF?? I believe these rods are meant to be solid carbon blank why would it just develop a breakage? I use the standard 3oz weight on my rigs so I doubt it was over loaded on the cast.....

I take care of my kit, always put it in its rightful place, protective bags etc so I dunno how this could have happened.

1. Who has had similar issues with these?
2. Can these be repaired or is it now an item for the rubbish bin?

Please assist.

Carbon rods have to be treated like babies, if you knock them sharply on a hard point or edge there is a good chance of them snapping there later. Better on a good cast than a good fish! You can most likely order another tip for you rod or find one that fits..

Understood. I guess I cant say that I have never bumped it somewhere because I just cant remember but it is a possibility.

I think there was a bad batch a few years ago but these were gladly replaced.
I've got 3 Alivio's and use it extensively... (already 4 years old now) and still going strong.

Where could I enquire about a possible replacement?

Good luck in getting a replacement tip for these rods from Rapala. I assume it's the CX model Alivio? The Alivio is not a strong rod at all, my brother broke 2 of them.
