couple of Snapper salmon and one LARGE ZAMBEZI  sited in the Umzimkulu River over last week. Sardine baits alwaways work in the umzimkuku with a bit of chokka.Cracker prawns are a dead loss.

One Two garrick in the 10 kg with a good Leerie at Splash Rocks before last weekend.

Leerie must have come up from the Cape waters.

Sorry to chirp on the Leeries but I used to catch the babies in 1980 in the Keurbooms river on small live mullet on 4kg line what a buzz...all released even in those days.

We also caught Yellowtail off Robbeberg point in the same era...Galjoen on the west side....

Anyone fished that area at that time.....NO DEEP SEA REPLIES ACCEPTED....Louis   ??

Also heard reports of that Zambezi, it got trapped in the river. I saw guys digging up the mouth to open it, not sure if the shark will make it out of there just yet though, guys who hooked it reckon it's in the 200kg range.

I see you are a local lad from Sheppie. Maybe hook up some time. I drive an old Disco 1 green.

Did the guys actually hook that Zamby in the river cause that must have been wild..especially if they had light tackle for river fishing.

Keane, I see you list Mpenjati as one your favourite places to fish, what have you caught there? I fished there in April and blanked, but it seems like a BRILLIANT place to fish, esp for sharks.

@ weedeater, guys have hooked the shark of the block and off sandspit, no one's been able to land it though. Any of you guys want to have a go are welcome to. Apparently if you have a big enough livie, there's a good chance of a pick up, going by what the locals say. As far as impenjati is concerned, I just like the tranquillity of the place, nice place for a family outing,kids can enjoy themselves there, nice facilities. Some fun can be had on light tackle. Occasionally you get some decent grunter. If you are going south, then on the right hand side of the bridge , i've heard of guys getting nice rock salmon at night. Always the safety factor though, go in big numbers.
@ fishfun , maybe we can hook up some time, my first stop on saturday morning is usually the block, never used to be, but with the fishing being so quiet recently, there's no point driving around.

Sounds like a MONSTER zambie, the stuff dreams are made of. Poor bugger's probably swimming around with a multitude of hooks in its mouth (if they haven't rusted out).

Mpenjati is great, I agree on the facilities, great spot overall, doesn't seem that the fishing is all that great though. I have fished on the south side and at Palm Beach, which seems to be better for eds.

Got a lot of stuff on Drop shot there ! Cant wait to get back down in December !

I work in Sheppie, but live in Durban, Hence i commute daily.

At the moment the river mouth is silted up and the river is extrmrly high, flooding the golf course again.

Its only time before the river opens naturally again.
