Went to 2de baai Saturday morning early, water was still empty. On arrival two WP guys were VAS with nice bronzies that was landed and released perfectly.
We casted in the sinkers and it was quiet for a hour or two, then my buddy got a quick pickup, but lost him. Next cast, about half ohur later "jou stok jou stok"!!! VAS!!! This was his first big shark so he played it very tired and safe. Landed the bronzie 15minutes later, estimated at +- 70kg. Now this was also the first shark I helped get out the water, we did not have a gaf, so I was dancing around in the waves to get the tail without getting into the line or my hand in the hooks or teeth.
Took pics and back in the water. He casts again, 15 minutes and the rod goes. small bronzie this time. brings in, about 5kg I guess.
Now Im getting g*tvol of not even getting a pickup and he gets all the action. So I started setting up a rod for edible fishing. Just as I put on the reel I hear a reel SCREAMING, and then a snap!!
As I looked behind me I see my rod flying at an unbelievable speed towards the water. You can just imagine the words I used seeing that. I dropped the other rod and ran like hell towards the water... then the worst thing happened... snap goes the line (maybe a blessing, or I might have lost the rod too). I pick up the rod out of the water, reel full of sand... with a big sigh and much disappointment, that was the end of my day.

Anyone know what shark it could have been? Was sliding a whole mackerel with 2 12/0 hooks. I definately want to go back and land this monster. Just not sure my tackle will hold.
