Shark fishing - Pennington (KZN)

Hi Guys

I'm new to Sealine and was wondering if I could get some tips and info.

I'm going shark fishing in Pennington (KZN) near the end of June and was wondering if anyone has some tips on what spots may be productive and what baits would work. I want to try and target a Zambezi.

howzit,ask around in pennigton how to get to umdoni point,the water is very deep with alot of big sharks around,send out a swim bait,small gray or spinner.hope you got therite tackle cause if you hook a zambi its gona stretch you to the max..

Hi Cappie Jack,

 

Zambezies are more likely to congregate near river mouths, therefore I would not suggest Pennington for the species. Secondly, I think it’s a bit late to target them, however just heard a report from Tugela mouth that a few in the 40-60kg has been landed recently. Live bait is the best as Keegz has suggested, swim a milky, small grey, spinner or even a diamond ray. Zambezies are voracious feeders and hunt in packs. I’ve read an article whereby the guy was actually doing battle with a huge Zambi and the smaller (30kg) Zambezies were attacking the fighting fish, and consumed about 2/3[suP]rd[/suP] of it’s body before the guy landed the remains. Definitely not a shark to mess with!

For the Pennington area, you are more likely to get greys and blackfin. Keep an open ear, as end of June is sards time (hopefully) and things could get hectic with Bronzies, edibles, etc.

I'm gonna try my luck with a live bait and hope for the best! Do you have any suggestions on how to get a small gray or milky? What bait etc?

Do you know if you get Raggies in this area? I have also heard that Kob/Salmon come down in the winter, do you know if this is true? And if so would a good chokka bait or a small live bait do the trick in targeting them?

Any news on the sard run?
