Shaka's Rock

Hi,

First an introduction, my name is Gary and I have been lurking around the site for sometime picking up all sorts of valuable information.
I am new to saltwater artificial lure fishing but have been flyfishing both in the fresh and the saltwalt for many years.

I need some advice from the guys who know the Shaka's Rock area and could point me in the right direction. I am not after GPS Co-ords or secret spots just general pointers will suffice and I will do the work from there.

I am heading there from the 18th - 25th of March.

Hi Gary,

I know the area quite well, as I grew up in Stanger.Havent fished artificial in this area alot though. Fly fishing in the area would be very difficult but highly dependent on your skill level.

The most successful artificial form of fishing in this area would be using your iron candy range of spoons , 1ounce to 2 ounce outfits. These spoons when used with a smooth casting braid really can be cast out between 120 to 150 m and as a result produce the best results off all the rocky ledges along this part of the coastline. Catches range from Natal Snoek to bonito to all species of Kingfish. Best colour for the spoons, pink, orange and chartreuse. For snoek the best would be standard bullet spoon (1-2ounce) shined up till it twinkles... tight lines hey.

Spots in the area : Fish between , Sheffield and Ballito , Shakas High rock is favoured by many for Natal Snoek, there are plenty of rocky high points and ledges in this zone. Best times would naturally be at dawn and dusk.

If you are looking to catch fish i would say head north to the amatikulu river it about 50 min north of ballito. iv had great fun there on drop shot im shore that you can get fish on fly there. alternately the section between Dave's rock and Christmas bay the guy have been getting some bus black tip kingies on live bait.
