Setup for talapia fishing

Hey guys

We have a small dam behind our house that is crystal clear and not too many people fish it. As far as I know, it has talapia and catfish in it (theres a myth that there are crocs there, and its probably true given that I live in zululand). I have also seen water monititors there, but thats not a fish, and not what I want to catch

What ultralight setup should i use to catch talapia? Like what reel, line, rod? Or should I just use the traditional bamboo pole method?

I have caught bream/kurper before, but they were much bigger than talapia, and we used quite heavy tackle by my standards

Will a 7ft m action rod with a 2500 size reel that has 10lb line on it work? Or is it too heavy?

hey S.Mike

There is another thread on ultra lite tackle. It's called okuma ignite it10. Check it out...

And as far I know, Bream/Kurper are talapia. All the same thing, just different names. There are a many species but you'll probably catch Moz Talapia or Red breasted.

Hope it helps
