My understanding is that if you are recreational, then no, you should not be selling. No problem giving to the neighbour I guess.

It is absolutely illegal for any recreational to sell their catch. It is wrong for a number of reasons:
1. Statute - as above, you can get fined for it, there are reasons for the law:
2. You undercut the commercial trying to make a living out of it. They have a tough enough time of it trying to survive without recreationals messing up their patch - see the recent situation where a number have just lost their livelihood courtesy of a Fisheries department with no idea, and happy to make laws independent of the scientific data. (As an aside, they ignore the scientific data in certain instances to support economics [or the vote!] and disregard societal issues elsewhere??)
3. You should always only catch what you want for supper and return the rest. This is assuming that you want your kids to be able to catch fish. Limit your catch, do not catch your limit.

Sadly many people do not adhere to this.

Not allowed to sell your catch! Catch a fry for the day, not for the month!

In the past the illegal sale of fish by tourists anglers/spearos in Mozambique had been mentioned. Purely greed, this was to cover their trip costs, and of course extra cerveja money. Not on...
