I can't quite see how or why a name would cause so much confusion but for clarity after an issue with the SeaGrand II.
1. The name SeaGrand is a registered Trademark of Hennie Papenfuss and myself and we were initially distributing it under the Alpha Tackle brand till there was a parting of ways between Hennie and the Alpha Brand management.
2. I had clients who wanted the original SeaGrand but I have sold out and currently discontinued the series. This being the case I offered an alternative on another blank of which I sourced 60 for the people looking for a slimline medium action 4-6oz 14' rod.
3. It was never called a SeaGrand 2 until an angler posted it as a SeaGrand II on Sealine.
4. As a result 5 very irate retailers climbed down my throat for selling SeaGrand rods to the public and not supplying them and as a result they were to discontinue my brand.
5. As a result of the whole episode our complete range of Saltwater custom rods will be known as SeaGrand's, forthwith, just as Gremlins has the Pentagon range and others the Bazooka and others the WAFT. For Example Pentagon P6, Pentagon shark Extreme, Waft Garrick, WAFT Musselcracker etc. So we'll be selling SeaGrand "Absolute Shark" or "SeaGrand" Ranger etc, etc
6. What blank the rods are made on, Century, Purglas, Blue Marlin, Sensation or our own imports is irrelevant as it is a custom rod build per specific design and for the customer's specific requirement.
In the case of the "SeaGrand II" as coined by the 5th owner of such a rod it is a slimline 14' rod designed for casting a 6oz and bait over a 2nd bank and being able to haul a fish of size if needed.
The rod is not an Epic Surf it is a SeaGrand Custom 14' 4-6oz and is as a matter of fact over 200gr lighter than an Epic (31% lighter) and there will only be 60 of these rods available, we'll make a decision on if we will import new blanks or make use of the new Oval Base Blank (5-8oz) when the final models are available.
Uncle Mike Pautz has just got his rod "SeaGrand II" and will be fishing Langebaan with it next week and there are another 10 standing on order here that I will finish when back from Next week's Nationals and off course one for myself.
Hope it clarifies the matter, why it was ever an issue I'll never know.
