Hi there,

I do not believe there to be any other active forums at the moment. UA also used to be active, but also sees the same amount of traffic as SL.

The only way to get it back up and running to the way it was would be to start posting again, but this will also take time.

Hopefully after the facelift we will see a return of some old faces.

I think the biggest problem here was a lot of jealousy / envy between very good, knowledgeable anglers and then some of them dissappeared to an other forum where exactly the same thing happen because of the same persons joining there without knowing it.

IMO.... I was a very active member of a few forums, even being part of the team that ran the old Cape Town Fishing and Vas Pappa sites. There were various reasons they all had a decline in attendance, but the biggest reason I found was that there are a few unscrupulous "anglers" who would come onto the sites, see what is happening and where, then go off and notify their other unscrupulous buddies via social media and then just go and wipe out any fish that happened to be in those areas. Don't get me wrong, there are many caring anglers out there who just want to show off what they caught (and these days, who can blame them with all the bad news going around somebody wants to share some good news now and then) but in the end they are not posting these images now so that they can protect "their" local waters and stocks.

There are many other reasons for lack of action on the sites, including those listed earlier, but that was the biggest reason I saw.

I agree with you as well Kosi. There was brilliant anglers here who shared advice and photos, but I remember a guy called Roland and myself that actually grow from novice to catching fish. Still say, jealousy between some good anglers starting a war of words.

Absolutely. I gained so much knowledge from those same anglers you refer to that I started loving fishing, rather than just liking it. Then something happened, a bunch of people got greedy and became "fishermen" and it became not such a good place to be, especially online. Now, I'm retired in Sedgefield, and I have some amazing spots around me. Sadly (?), retirement is not as quiet and relaxing as it is supposed to be. My social life is more active now than it ever was and I have no time to focus on fishing...go figure...

I don't think we will ever have forums where they were with whatsapp groups, facebook groups and facebook pages. Wikus aka Galjoen and Rean aka Stinkmossel are doing full time guiding, and when they have time post tutorial videos regarding bait and traces on their personal pages.
That said forums are more active if we answer questions that people post. The search function is there but can be a bit of a mission. If someone asks something even if it was said 10000 times before a simple reply with some information will help keeping the forums active. We won't ever get back to pages having new replies and topics like they used to be... youtube and facebook is just so much easier and simpler.
I still get PM's about Gouritz and other places, my knowledge is a mere drop compared to Haakies for example, and i'll refer them to those posts about spots, and give my 2c regarding baits and setups wind condition etc.
As for giving away spots and fishing areas and spots throwing fish, by the time someone reads it here i can virtually guarantee it has been on whatsapp for at least 2 days. If belman start coming out at Strand, and 2 hours later it looks like a bamboo forest, i can promise you they didnt hear about it on a fishing forum.

Keep answering questions posted on the forum if you can assist someone and the forums will keep ticking.
