yip that's why you want 90s so if one does conk in bad seas with strong current you can make head way.

Ryan Hansen had F70 on his personal 565 and changed to 100's. I tested that boat and Rory fished off that boat. It was SUPER dissappointing BUT i do believe the motors were not set up right, either the props or height was wrong.

That being said, even if you do have the F70's setup nicely (eventually) like QuQ does now, I don't think its good enough for surf launching and even big sea days especially if you going to be 4 or 5 up. So for me the Yammie F70's are out for that boat.

I wouldn't go 100's either 80's and even Suzuki 70's would be more than capable. The suzuki 70's are 1500 odd cc were the F70's are 900 odd cc. KW's means nothing and what you after is torque which is exactly what the suzukis give you.

My previous 17ft boat was fitted with the Suzuki 70's and they were over kill for that boat, there are many 23ft butt cat that are propelled by the Suzuki 70's that in itself should tell a story.

I now have a much heavier boat in an 18ft Z craft which is powered by Merc 80's and they are a hand full but I can guarantee that the 70's would not move this boat let alone get on the plain has she is a heavy girl and needs torque to pull her and not kilowatts.

So my choices would be stick with the Yamaha 70/90 2 strokes or in four stroke Yamaha 80's or Suzuki 70 or 90's  or even Honda 80 or 90's

When taking advice. Consider Cape boats require much less power as they launch from Slip ways. If surf launching you need power.

Craig.fish, when I refer to power in big swells and wind etc, I have had a 15'6 Orion cat with 40's. While in decent ocean the boat was good, but on heavy seas it would labour and you needed to play with throttle all the time. I put 50's on and what a diff. So that is my thought on going for 90 not 70.

With regards to putting Suzuki 70 not 90, they both weigh the same at 155kg. So my thought is to rather run the 90 at half throttle than 70 at 3/4 and I would then have the power of 90 when surf launching when I want to go to Sodwana etc.

RC. The difference between the F70's and the Zuke 90's is 70kg for the two. I got someone of that weight to sit on the live well this weekend to see what the effect was .... not much at all. So if it is only the weight issue holding you back, get the Zukes and enjoy the knowledge of having huge amounts of power in reserve.

Looks like I am going to go with the Suzuki 90.

Now does anybody know of somebody interested in my 90 2 strokes with 450hrs each and 2008 model plus spare props and motor covers. Just been serviced and new impellors fitted. PM me. I will post advert in classifieds soon so one can also look out for advert.

Congrats. You are going to have a rocket as those engines have way, way more power than that boat needs. Those same motors power a 23' butt cat with hull extensions to 33 knots (just one motor gets the same Butt on a plane and up to 22 knots).

Hi all,

Ok finally had motors fitted and ran them in this morning. Motors have awesome power and excelleration from 3000rpm's is excellent. Perfect for surf launching.

I had to buy new 100ah batteries as the motors require them to run the electronics from the motors etc. They are to big for battery compartments at the transom so had to put then in the forward consol. So manage to offset part of the extra 80kg on the transom from the motors with 50kg upfront in the consol.

The NE was pumping today and one thing that stood out was the ride into the swell and wind the boat did not pound as much with the heavier weight at the back. I was told by Yamaha Dealer that the SeaCat forward consol rides better with weight at the back, and I can say with xperience it does.
