Yes but not 5oz to 150m on 50lbs braid. Scale down to 20-30lbs

Was the same when Deon couldn't get distance with a 4oz on the Stella and 12' DC..... I couldn't figure till we saw he was trying with 100lbs Braid. Went to 30lbs and Siedaar 140m minimum

Thanks especially Enigma for the education. As usual nothing is as it seems. It is all becoming clearer. By the way the reason for the 30 cm butt. it is the best balance I can find for me between being able to flick an accurate shot spinning style whilst still having a comfortable reel height for bringing Bronzies over the bank. The standard butt length literally gives me a pain. The longer fore grip is just for comfortable leverage at the sensitive stage of actually running the fish up with the surge. For the life of me being a right hander, I cannot consistently cast with my right hand up the rod and my left fore finger on the trigger casting multiplier style. Gremlins built a 9 foot shad drift bait rod for me on a Purglas carp blank to that configuration and it is just perfect. Strange but true.

Regarding butt to reel, also find 30cm odd. But to each his own.

Too short for effective push pull if using the right hand to control the reel with the left on the butt (assuming you are right handed)
Try putting the butt between your legs (just pretend you are an American Surf Fisherman - its their standard practice) to get the reel at a comfortable level when retrieving.
That or use the left hand to control the reel with right hand further up.
Or cast over your left shoulder with right hand controlling the reel/line release.
Last option sounds counter intuitive ie left handed but you will be surprised at how well you will cast....

I cast left handed on a loomis shockwave 10ft and it works for me....
