Scott 9/10 WT saltwater rod

Good day all

I am currently in the market for a saltwater set up and came accross a Scott 9/10 WT and 8/9 WT rods that are both goinng for R1000.
With this said there are BFR Magnum 200D 9/10 WT reel and a Magnum 140D 8/9Wt reel both with disc drag for R500 each. I take it these are maybe old models as they are marked down in price?

First thing im interested in finding out is- are these rods and reels good quality products that will do the job?
I have not seen these products on the SA market yet...

Any feed back or good advice if any on these products would be apreciated.

Second thind being new to the sport i am looking for a allrounder tipe of rod and reel to target light saltwater fish (less than 5kg hopefully) and maybe some carp or barble on the same rod that is not going to break the bank.

Scott make a number of models, but on the whole are fantastic rods. Take them, you wont be sorry. Id be interested in them too if youre not. I have a number of reels that would be suitable for those rods, the BFRs are on the cheaper side and will do a job, but not a long term solution if you really get into it.

But get the Scotts if theyre in good condition.

Regarding the BFR 200D, yes they are old stock but they are tried and tested reels offering reliability and good value for money.
They are used for targeting bigger salmon up in Northern Scotland and a quick search on the UK fly fishing forums yields positive results. Nothing wrong with that pairing

The scott rods are still in store, just old stock..

Two piece rods.
Think its Older Meridian's.
I am still contemplating on buying one..

Not sure if someone has some advice on the older Scott versions?
Maybe 3-5 years old..

Ok, two piece is only a real bind if youre going to travel, otherwise shouldnt be an issue if youre driving

Scott are a fantastic Brand of rod, you will not go wring with them. Im not personally hung up on having the latest and greatest models. Some times its all hype and marketing.

Comes down to personal choice.

I picked up a couple of BFR reels dirt cheap a few years back, mainly because the Tackle shops lack of knowledge on the BFR range and history.

I have been using BFR Dragonfly LA 70's & Modula 55 for my freshwater fly fishing and the Dragonfly LA 90 for salt. Have them for 4 years now and still perform great.

My brother based in the UK uses the LA 90's for big stillwaters and we have found them to be really great value for money seeing as we preferred spending the extra cash on quality lines and rods.

At the end of the day you buy what makes you happy

Production of BFR reels stopped in 2004. I was lucky enough to get these reels brand new (old stock).
