Samgross Vaalriver

Hey guys, registered here with the intention to buy a boat and start fishing, eventually got round to it.

So I need some help please. I bought myself an Alligator 350 Aluminium boat, got a 30HP Mercury on the boat and have been to the Vaalriver a few times.

Firstly I haven't been doing any angling for a very long time, but my Son caught a few at a dam the other day and loved it.

So that is what got this all started, I bought some flyrods, a collection of flies but have had no luck with them.

So any any advice in regards to what flies, bait, what fish etc will be highly appreciated.

We use the Launch facility at Samgross at this stage.

Sorry a bit off topic but what are the cost to launch at sangross? and what are their gate times?

Fishing that part of the river is mostly carp and barbel.
For carp sweet flavors like caramel/molasses/strawberry/almond floaties or just a plain sweet white dough always give good fish and never go there without earthworms.

My luck with barbel in that part of the river isn't really good but a small carp head or just a bunch of worms should get you a barbel.

Then there is also Bass. Havent fished there much for bass but your dark flukes and spinner baits always gets me one or 2. Just stick close to any structure be it the bank or a submerged tree.

Enjoy

Thanks Timjan, the daily fees are R150 to launch a boat, then R50 pp.

They have an annual fee which allows you to go as many times as you like, obviously if you take more people than you registered for you will pay R50 for the day for them.

The annual fee for Myself, wife and son is R2200 per year, but their season runs from July to June.

I think the closing time is 18h00, but can't confirm that.

We usually get there at around 9h30 and leave around 16h00

Thanks for the info as well.
