Saltiga Braid???

The Saltiga Boat Braid is apparently very good!!!! Free the Fighter was at our place last night and we spooled his Gorilla 12C with 300m 80lb. Took all 300m and room on the spool for another 100m or so.

This in comparison with mine that has 278m Ande 80lb braid and the spool is really full!

Clearly the diameter is very very good.

He caught a lot of really big doggies using the Saltiga Braid............ so by all accounts you will be happy with it.

Ads - Sorry mate, I thought you were referring to the fact that some Braids are branded under different names, and if you meant that Daia was also branded under Viper... sorry bro, brain fart moment....

I find the Daiwa to be pretty good on diametre.... Its not as skinny as the YGK Ultra, but far better than Tuffline XP... By the sounds of it the Viper sounds really thick...

Suffix makes some good braid, I'd had good resluts with it in the past, and its good to know they are bringing in a Multi colour version now...bit of a strange length though at 280 metres.... .

We should be stocking JigStar Braid in the next couple months.... top quality multi colour braid, without the ridiculous price tags of YGK and Varivas etc....

Nepps, no problem mate.
Hopefully a few pics to put on your site next week as off the the kei for the weekend tomorrow. 2 of us jigging, so hopefully the current will let us have a go at the coppers, but my 200g sure catch butterflys will probably take too long to hut bottom.
still need to test those slow jigs you spoke about. also got a new Lowrance HDS5 GPS that can be converted to HD finder as well to test. fetching it a bit later so hopefully the fish pull my arms off tomorrow.

Its been a touch and go again. Mate from CT here with his bird and my missus giving me grief so you know the way it goes.
As for the tackle, will rather see you test it on the boat later in the year.

Correct RB - I filled the G12C this am and got another 100m on it. Sorry, but when I last fished I was using YGK Ultra - but am gonna try this Saltiga Boat Braid coz I thought it felt good. Just another option.

The Viper braid is pretty thick and Koboko's point of getting down in a strong current is very valid. Amount of line on the reel is one issue but it is amazing how much difference the thinner softer lines make in getting down in the current - so much so that some guys swear that you dont go over 65lb.

Its a whole new debate but IMO once the fish is on and you have hooked him at 80m the thinner line also better as the bow in the line doesn't get as severe. He takes off but still your line appears to be straight down meaning a massive bow in the line. So you have your drag at 20lb say but the effective pressure on the terminal tackle is more like double that coz of the bow and friction in the water - result - popped knots, pulled hooks !!!

Furthermore, when jigging the more direct your contact with the jig with the thinner line the better the action on the jig. The thick line will be bowed as the current pulls it so you will be straightening the line as much as moving the jig. You can actually feel the more direct contact with the thinner lines.

The principal is the same when catching fat bedding bass in the weeds - the thinner 10lb flouro often is more effective than the 20lb thick mono coz it cuts through the weed. Weeds bunch up on the thick stuff !!

Also in  SA shops there are two types of YGK in the shops - the YGK  Gallis Ultra ( Blue label in 100m interlocked spools) and the YGK  X8 with the white label ( slightly thicker but still great) - I think (?).

Sadly quality does cost but I thought the Saltiga Boat Braid a reasonable price and the YGK well worth the little extra too.

So..... I am not advocating light lines -  IMO decide the b.strain you need and then  get the thinnest stuff in that class !

Also Tkei - with the bunching issue - you dont really want hassle with that on the water hey ? I was amazed at how easily the line tended to lay itself naturally on my brand new G 12c when spooling it - havent fished with it yet - sure the OJ's will be the same - sure Andre/Roy can sort you with either/or if you aint got one yet ???
