SALMO-SUMMER

Went out for a quick runabout this morning ,and got a few ,seems like the Salmo Slider in "Parrot" colour is back in business.Like most anglers I have way too many lures (if there is such a ridiculous thing),but since they came to South-Africa the Slider mentioned above has really become my "confidence" lure for cats. Conditions were very windy, even early morning ,and that doesnt bode well, yet the Slider produced again in the fairly hi-vis water colour, in sunny ,windy conditions.

Apparently, if you catch too many of them, your smile turns into a "catfish-smirk" LOL

Great Stuff!!! Will you please shed some light on the technique you use with the slider? I manage to find 2 parrots and 1 starry night, and I want to see if there are any nice cats here around Durbs!

Congrats Lekker fish......
I saw hundereds today - had to restrain myself as I need to to prefish for species so had to leave the "Mantu's" alone.
One of the other boats got a 14.5kg on a carp leadhead though

Very nice fish Kitefisher, where was this fish caught if i may ask??

Thanks Brush hog, caught at one of the many pans in and around Welkom which the Mining -industry dont upkeep anymore(redundant),Nature conservation has virtually no jurisdiction over and the Municipality not unlike other cities use/abuse for their dismall sewerage programs. If anyone wanted to do a study on how fish stay alive ,let alone fairly healthy, in very high sewerage content water, then this is your spot.

Our mayor (note no capital letter used) got a warning from the deputy minister of environmental affairs to rectify the problem within 30 days or face imprisonment about three months ago and guess what ?Yes you guessed right nothing happened, the water-levels have risen to dangerous proportions and they started pumping water out now into a "spruit" but a couple of us know that this "spruit eventually leads to the Sandriver which was once the home of some pretty nice sized bass, amongst the regular yellows, carp and barbel.

Do I sound bitter, yes some Zambuc in your nostrils only take you so far, then it starts opening your olfactory senses even better and the vicious -cycle has to be repeated.

What an angler will do to catch a couple of fish LOL.

@Critter I will gladly tell you what works for me,just tell me if you are using a boat or not ,type of rod and reel, structure nearby, reeds in the planned vicinity etc then I will try and fill in what you cannot get from Ryan our "resident expert" (chuckle, but serious)

Lekker om van jou te hoor, het toevallig gehoor whaler het dragwashers vir 9000 en 10 000 in voorraad,as jy belangstel.  Gerhard your retrieve with  the slider can be varied and is best observed in a swimming pool, sometimes just a "low-splash" underhand cast, where you notice a swirl< is all that is needed for an "on dad" On other occasions a slow intermittent jerk works well just above the bottom or even in midwater,I think that is what makes these lures unique, different retrives, different actions.

As you know, cats can also be finnicky, and one has to observe which retrieve works on the day.you can always change lures to effect differing retrieves, but on various occasions will I only take the slider in different colours and no other lure, which forces you to try varying retrieves, and still the Slider produces.
