Safe to float tube high up in the breede river?

Hi all,

I'm planning on going to basshaven (http://www.basshaven.co.za) this coming weekend for some bass fishing on my float tube. I just want to know, will this be safe?

I've heard reports of bullsharks roaming the breede river...even as high up as 200km!

What's your take on this? Should I rather leave the float tube at home?

Thanks

Ja you wil be fine there. Think of it this way.... If you do get attacked you will be the first person in SA to be attacked by a bull shark on the breede. If I'm not mistaken that is :)

Let us know how it goes. Keen to try that venue aswell sometime.

Weekend done and dusted. Really great accommodation for the price, BUT I won't call the place 'basshaven'

I was only able to get one bite this whole weekend (white fluke). I've tried spinners, poppers, jigs, senkos etc but to no avail. Had a chat with a local and he said that the bass are very scarce these days.

This was a bit of a letdown for me as I was really looking forward to catching some smallies and the odd largie.

Luckily I brought an el-cheapo rod and reel with as a 3rd spare. Decided to go buy a can of whole kernel corn and try my luck with the carp (never fished for carp before)

Boy, was this fun! I was able to pull out a 4kg and a 5kg carp. My girlfriend pulled out a 4kg and a 6kg!

Think they should rename the place to 'Carphaven' as most of the bass are long gone

Thnx Frogstar. Will definitely give Clanwilliam a go. Can you camp there? I take it it's floattube friendly? I also want to try out theewaterskloof but as far as I know you need a boat

Ripstorm, did you use your float tube in the breede?
I'm heading out to Robertson this weekend and contemplating on taking the tube along to look for some long lost smallies in the river. Not sure if i want to risk my life.......:ssswim:
