So I've posted a tread regarding fishing this lake for the first time - got some info. My next question: What's the lake record currently ????

theres been 50's ou in the past but all have been taken to better waters where they have a chance to survive.

Biggest you will get is probably a 15kg. But I think there is only one of that size swimming around there.

That's a shame - I know of the stock that went in there some yrs ago when it was known as The Rose Farm - I disagreed with it but - I guess "greed" played the upper hand.

Any 20lb + carp will do nicely still for me - as long as I'm safe to fish without having to look over my shoulder !!

Tx !!!

Ah! you guys and your beloved Laurentia....hehehehe! Go fish a dam with some fish man! whahahahahaha!

Although Ive seen some nice fish recently come out of there... they starting to look like carp again, not just skeletons.
Basspro pm Carpcrazy... he and his buddy did a session there recently.

The story that I heard about Rushmere is that some years back, when the dam was still a private venue fished by overseas guests, the local guys stocked the dam with 20 or so fish between the 20-30lb mark. These guys then left Rushmere/Laurentia and started the Top Lake syndicate... a few years later they returned to remove all the big carp and put them into the Top Lake... the details around the deal that was made is a bit scetchy....

But there should be a few fish in the 15-17kg range in there, because there's been quite a few reports of fish coming out in that range... BUT, i havent seen proof (photos)... so who knows... Its a nice little dam though.

I'm aware of the detail of that stocking - aware of who did what etc,........ but that's a story for another day.

I'll fish the venue all the same !!!

no prob BP. Its a nice venue, and plenty fish in the 6-11kg range... friend of mine was there over the weekend and between them they had a 12kg, 9,5kg and 8,5kg...a few smaller ones inbetween.

Just make sure all your tackle complies with the rules for the place, otherwise you'll get all sorts of crap from the "bailiff"...
The rules can be seen on www.laurentia.co.za

I read these rules (thanks for the link) -However I have a problem with:
No mainline below 15 lb breaking strength. - now I don't use building gut to catch fish & it's a sight to have 15lb line on a baitrunner unless of course it's a thinner diameter say 19lb - like the Sufix Specialist lines.

a baitrunner is a coffee grinder (this is juts by the way)

Is "Shannon" still the Bailiff there ??? - believed he scratched in some guys fishing gear -- not something he must attempt with me & my gear - especially when I have no problem abiding by all the rules !!!

Hi Basspro,

Lauretia is a very nice venue and safe! Carpcrazy and I fish the dam quite a lot! I would say 15kg is a huge fish for Lauretia, but there is a lot of fish between 7.5 and 13kg.

PM me if you would like any advice.

I've been there many years ago - I'm sure I'll enjoy it - what I like most of the place is that it's safe - for family and there is ablution facilities ... women like that.

Although I think it's a bit of a rip off for "non -anglers & kids to pay that amount we pay - even so its all the same to me !!!!

Yeah sure I will - cheers !!!

Hehehehe! sure hope you guys didnt think I was serious with my previous post....about the dam. I was there a long time ago and cant really comment on it at the moment.

Ive heard funny stories about Shannin, where he doesnt even comply with his own rules when fishing there.. thats a bad example!

Basspro Im with you there... if he digs in my stuff he's gonna know about it and get it!!!! He has no right to do that, but if he asks to see my stuff, I'll show him myself. no way he is gonna rummage through my stuff.

mmmmmmm - another bone of contention: My take: I've been specimen fishing for say 12yrs - AM I A PRO? - or am I JUST EXPERIENCED? - BUT: DO I KNOW IT ALL? HELL NO
Some anglers say I've had a 40 & I know it all & know what I'm doing - 1 guy stole a rig outta my wallet & caught a 40 and he is tellling me how to fish - we no longer friends. Other anglers in SA will never fish a small venue - big lakes from here to overseas - ARE THEY PRO'S? - NO - THEY CAN JUST AFFORD MORE THAN U & I - that simple.

I fish big lakes at most twice a year - I had some big fish - thing is: NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THEM - 'cos I share it with a select few friends.

Now U & I can become a guide / show people lakes & help them catch carp - BUT when 1 guy dictates how I should fish & not abide by his own rules & I see it - I will not keep quiet. Still when I pay to fish say Rushmere - I WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE "MOST OF THE TIME" unless I am fishing with company.
