Roof racks for double cab

Hi guys,

I have just bought a New Hilux Double Cab without a canopy and was wondering if the cab is big enough for putting on roof racks for my 14ft assembled rods while driving between spots.

I don't know why but without the canopy i am not sure that roof racks will be far enough apart to hold the rods securely.

Any ideas, or am i just being a dumba*s?

Hiya Bastion,

I was in the same boat the other day. My ford D/C does not have the old style gutters and fitting a set of decent roof racks became a serious problem.

I was not keen on drilling into the roof and set out to find a set which would not require any mods to the vehicle.

To cut a long story short the best set I could find we made by Thule. Prue quality cam at an absurd price.

It ended up being cheaper to buy a quality second hand canopy and then fitting sts rod holding racks!

I guess my question is that If i put two racks on the cab, would this be okay to hold the rods (because the racks will be so close)? I am not so keen on adding a canopy.

Hiya bastion,

If you can fit roof racks to your D/C the space between the racks should not be a problem at all.

I agree....just that those clips tend to bugger up the seals on your doors!!
