Roodeplaat

Hi Guys

Have anyone fished Roodeplaat recently? We went there on Monday afternoon and fished the whole bank from the boat launch right to the dam wall as well as from the wall right around to the old aventura side. These areas usually produces a couple of fish, but we didn't even got a little nibble! We tried absolutely everything. I will be limited to fishing very close to home for the next month or so and Roodeplaat will probably be my quick afternoon getaway spot. If anyone has some advice on fishing Roodeplaat during these high summer times it will be greatly appreciated!!!

Maybe get some platties and go for barbel lol. I have had the same frustrations. Plaat was pretty good along the bank during the spawn sept and nov (before the rains when the water was nice and clear) but nothing since then. I have also tried hard:) There are some big bass in plaat, but catching them is another story! For afternoons try ithumela its a small place right close to roodeplaat. There are some bass there - quite a lekker spot

I've been to Ithumela this morning but I do not think it is worth the R80 you have to pay. The one dam is covered in "slik" and you battle to get a plastic to sink through this and if you use a wight you just get the "slik" stuck to the weight. The bigger dam is clean but at this stage this is the only dam you can fish and by 07:00 this morning we already had 10 guys fishing a dam of 30m x 60m. At 08:00 there we 15-20 people fishing this piece of water. I took my 4x4 and went to the bottom dam and was able to get one barbel and one bass (both about 1.5 kg) on a crawdad. This bottom dam also has a problem with grass and "slik" but at least you can fish without waiting for people to retrieve their lures before you can cast. The river at the bottom of the property is also nice and I am sure you will catch well in the river as well. I hope somebody will tell the Ithumela owners that they will have to clean up the dams or people will think twice going there for R80 even if it is close to PTA. Will rather go to places a bit further but where you can catch in proper dams with grass etc. and not the "slik" that floats and creates a carpet.

Havent fished plaat in months, the bass just went off the bite since November 2010, not to mention the damage done to the population during the spawn:(, it was heart breaking to see locals imimtating my patterns just pulling fish out and not a single one being released. If the dam level stays constant during the winter into to spawn time, then prepare to catch a few monsters from Sept to Nov.:wfish
