Nice going there, especially because it's Roodeplaat, it's bank angling and worst of all you did that in a hour, now that deserves a big round of :clap12 Really!!!! Well, done!

Was that at the old northern transvaal angling grounds?

Yeah - to the far right near Hengelaarsvriend. There is a dead tree in the water, about 100m out which I worked.

Jacques

You mean to the far left, anyhow, I know exactly where that is, and again that's realy an achievement like I said because it's Roodeplaat, it's carp and you did it in 1 hour.  From the pic it seems that it was late in the afternoon, well past two in anycase, which hour did you manage them? Oh and not to give away your secrets but was there any banjo and/or caramel in your bait/s?

Congrats again!!!

Whahaha, me bad - yes to the left !!

It was just after 17:00

No secrets from me:
Banjo worked into the lock
Almond Supreme on the lock
Amino Acids worked into the lock

Hoohkbait:
Plain Dough
And Pink Sweets Brommer

All hooks dipped into pink sweets

Fish do not produce amino acids like humans they have to take it in through their food - insects, snails, other fish etc etc.

Carp target, firstly and maily food with Amino Acid and Protien. Got Krysdon Ambio from Henkor.

I asked the Q in the Specimen Carp thread

Jacques

Now that is something I didn't know, thanx for the enlightenment, so what you're saying is that the carp are actually attracted to the smell of the amino's much like with other scents? and if so, did you notice a considerable upswing in your catch rate and perhaps size of fish since you started using the amino's or was that your first time using it?

Is it the same stuff these dieters use to lsoe weight?

That's it LGF,

The difference between specimen carp angling and the conventional "papgooi" is not so much in the rig - boilie vs glei rietvlei, but more in the use of natural bait attractants as well as fish care (and you gonna hammer me on that one ;) ) - high protien and nutritional value. And it is sad to say - I know more of the nutritional value of my carp bait than that of the food that my kids eat ;(

I do however change a bit of my tactics when fishing water that have been fished extensively conventional - like rodeplaat and combine between the 2 facets.

Whan I fish Rietvlei, Buffelspoort, Klaserie, Doorndraai, Donalsons, Rushmere and Fanie Botha - it is purely specimen angling

Jacques

Hammer you? about the fish care I suppose?, Nah, don't feel like arguing all that much and but what I do want to say you need to read in the conservation section....

Anyhows, have you ever caught Carp, on fly, I've tried some years ago but have yet to hook into one?

Hey Boys I can help - but carp are very finicty.

Condtions have to be ideal - I believe Bronkies will be a good place to start but you need windy condtions and well let's be honest - flyfishing just aint fun when the weind blows.

Will keep you posted as to when they start...

@LGF:

Went past Roodeplaat Yeterday (05/09) Had a peek around Hengelgronde again (not fishing this time). I walked to Fell (Right side) to where the cable is - What a frenzy - fish are, like you said, haveing huge orgy's there.

I also saw some guys bassing from Hengelaarsfriend (stand one) - wading into the water (I had privie to see them land one ave size bass).

Jacques

Thanx for the info, yeah the bass are coming out, even in their frenzy of orgies, thing is it's other peoples rods that get them, mine, well they've only caught some mer-people two weeks ago.  Roodeplaat's water level is worrying me as i drive over the bridge on the old aventura road almost on a twice per week basis and everytime i go over the bridge the water level is lower and lower.

Do you know or have any reports on bass and kurper fishing at Buffelspoort? I might be heading out that way over the weekend, waiting for vlakvark to call, other destination might be RDW (again shaaaaaait and I downt laaikiet dat matsh).
